What kind of woman is or was she? Feel free to provide notable examples

Mine isn't that great, but things could have been a lot worse

She kept me fed and she provided a roof over my head, and she also introduced me to both atheism and the musical compositions of Holst

Your turn

My mom was a hard working lady when it was just me and my 2 sisters when we were still at home together. She was a Nurse, she did what a mother would do, feed us and care for us. Our dad wasn't around for the most parts cause he was a Truck driver, going from state to states and that's my story. My mom was a good lady, but never care what I do when I wasn't around the house.

@BiancaDK: Yep, she's 57. Retire Nurse now and works from home. I do need to plan a trip to go see my parents next month.

@BiancaDK: I'm not defensive about talking about my mother, but when someone asks a question along those lines that awesome scene is always the first thing that pops into my head. I'm actually a bit surprised nobody posted it sooner.

She's a little boring, just like my dad. But they're okay.

She:

1. Looks down on my in-laws no matter how successful they are.

2. Is very feisty. She's the eldest among her and my aunts. Her word is law among them.

3. Is a no-nonsense person. If she thinks you're a slacker, she'll say it to your face and bad-mouth you. Video gamers, couch potatoes, flunkies in school or college, those who lack home maintenance/cleanliness skills, beware. You don't want to be anywhere near her.

4. Is very proud of those who succeed in making something of themselves. She's very proud of my sister and her hubby who are both doctors. She's also proud I'm a weatherman although she still reminds me I should have been a mechanical engineer. She's also proud of my cousins who succeeded in establishing their own businesses.

Best mother a child could have.

She played the role of a father and mother to me in my childhood, fed and sheltered me, worked very hard to keep us alive and educated, and never gave up on any of us.

My mom is pretty great.

I take after my dad, and can be a bit of a dirty hippie, and since her and my stepdad are upper class conservatives, we clash sometimes, but she doesn't hate me for it haha.

Lately I really haven't seen much of her though tbh. She owns a few houses, I live in one, and her, my stepdad, and my sisters in another about a half an hour away. I'm not opposed to living with them, and honestly I'd probably prefer it, but this house is just too convenient for my work and college for me to leave it.

When I was a kid I used to love reading and playing video games with her though. I remember sitting on her lap and "playing" the first Sonic the Hedgehog when I was like three. Back when she was a broke schoolteacher, and we used to live with my grandma we'd spend the entire day together, just having fun in our own little way...it was fantastic.

We might not see eye to eye, or even see each other much anymore, but I still love her, and I'm thankful that I'm lucky enough to be her son.

My mom is the greatest! She has led an interesting life, raised two kids, remained married to my dad (which is a big deal, they are very different). She and I can have a lot of fun together, too! I love that I get my sense of humor from her, in addition to many other attributes.

With that said, been going to therapy for a while now, it's funny how one's mom seems to be the source of all problems lol. She and I did not get along; there was a lot of physical and mental abuse for the first eight years or so of my life because I was a weird kid and she wanted a normal kid, I think. Also I suspect she resented me, at least for a time, but that might just be my "critical voice" chiming in.

My Mom saved my butt a few times and bailed me out of trouble a lot. I love her, she is great.

My Mom's also a Nurse and she is about 2 years away from retirement.

Is that a joke to the Greece crisis? Reminds of Germany post WW1.

Yeah, it seemed the obvious "go-to" for me, but we might have just revealed ourselves as being old if that's the way we think.

Over-validating. Overly emotional. Has cognitive dissonance about who she is vs who she perceives herself to be.

I think it is probably worse to have a mother who does not validate and/or affirm enough, but with my mom, I seriously have to tell myself I'm a shitty person over and over to myself before seeing her to even myself out. LOL

Of course not. That's why I game on the PC. It's easy to pretend I'm being productive unlike holding some kind of controller which is a dead giveaway. My sister also games on her laptop even though she's a doctor. She's a big The Sims fan.

At this stage, our mom probably won't give us much grief. Once we reached where we wanted to be, then we can indulge as much as we want. Of course, neither of us want to test that assumption. ;-)

Devoted, caring, hard working and sweet. Yet also a simpleton and extremely averse to change. If only she could be a little more open-minded, things would have been a lot easier for her.

She thinks I'm an apostate, a blasphemer....

She's a witch and makes incense and dabbles with all kinds of crazy alchemy. Cured me of Pneumonia at home and my brother of pleurisy. Distrusts almost everyone.

She also has ridiculous stamina reserves and can do physical tasks that would knacker a burly laborer.

More like an Artic Front with an explosive volcanic eruption. Very cold with a fiery temper. Very strong-willed woman.

That same strong will allows her to go around like she's only 60 when in fact, she's 86 years old.

I hope I have her genes. Both my great grandmother and grandmother went past 100 years.

My mom is really kind and lovely . still tries to hug and kiss me all the time even thought I'm nearly 20 years old . sometimes she gets too silly . but well she's a mother . loves her children .

she never really worked outside , my father always made enough money for the family . always had a great relationship with my father ( which is also an amazing father ) and they have been married for 32 years !

the only bad thing about her might be her temper , she gets angry too easily .
