It's been more than ten years since High School but with all the back-to-school stuff going on a question occured to me.

What did teachers always have in those mugs they drank from?? And why did they use mugs?? I never saw a teacher with anything but a coffee mug. No straw, no plastic, just a coffee mug.

Any ideas???

why would you drink coffee with a straw? People in offices and other jobs do that too, not just teachers

The straw was an arcane example.

We would always ask them but they would refuse to answer (whether it was jokingly or not I never figured out).

You can't see what's in a mug from a side view, so they use it to hold whiskey and other spirits for calming their nerves. It's impossible to deal with dozens of children without it.

See. I always wondered that but thought surely not. However, we could never look in the mug. They would always take it with them when they walked out of the room. Plus, they never sipped it like you would a hot drink. It was always a 'regular' drink.

It's been a while since I was in school but I would be shocked if an alarming percentage of teachers didn't drink in the classroom. It is soo easy to make your coffee Irish and nobody would be able to detect anything because of how strong the coffee smell is.

Close....But starbucks (if I am thinking the same thing you are) doesn't want things to be spelled easily. It's frappaccino, for whatever reason :P

If it was straight whiskey you wouldn't drink it like a regular drink, and if you do. That's pretty manly and badass.

I would assume they would prolly cut it with something.
