Really? I'd never personally send any of my kids to an internet/fat/gay camp, but I don't think parents doing it are exactly dirtbags (well, except maybe the gay camp ones). But shouldn't we be reserving our contempt for, you know, the people who beat the kid to death?These camps are a way of parents sending off their kids to be trained somewhere else
When you have kids (as I'm sure you know) your only goal is their well being.
That means if your kid has an addiction to the internet then you turn your house to Amishland and help them through it. You're going through it too even though you don't need it.
It's like the camps for fat kids where the kids get sent away and the parents continue to eat poorly. If your child has a problem with weight everyone in the house eats correctly. That's how it's fixed.
The idea that we have camps that parents use when they don't want to take care of their children is disgraceful
Yes, the people who did it were monsters but the child did not need to be in that environment
I don't really know what was going through these parents heads. I'm trying to reserve judgement. Internet addiction seems quite silly in the West. In China, it's treated as a real problem. I don't know whether we have parents passing the buck here, or at the end of their rope trying to fix their child. In the end, I suppose it doesn't matter, even if they were the worst parents in the world, or the most loving, well meaning, their son's fate would have been the same once he was sent to this camp. I just think it's odd the target of hate isn't the actual murderers, who obviously acted in a way contrary to their contract with the kid's parents.
