When I was a kid, my parents told me about the Tooth Fairy, Santa and God. I believed them on all three because why would they lie? Then I found out about the tooth fairy, but that didn't shake my belief in the other two. But then I found out about Santa, and that was big for me and I decided to be smart and stop believing in God to stay ahead of the curve. I am a proud atheist and will never believe in a religion unless there is explicit undeniable proof put in my face. Moral of the story: If you want kids to believe in religion (which no offense but it can seem farfetched when you are told about as a kid) then don't make up farfetched lies about other things. If You want them to be atheist, then string them along and watch as a part of them dies when they find out the truth.

So discovering there's no Santa is a preparation for accepting there's no God.

To troll: Love is an affection, that can be felt psychologically by one's conscious self. This is also known as, emotion.

With that being said what does that have to do with starmetroids post? He was merely saying that realizing that your parents have been lying to you about, say, The Easter Bunny and Santa Clause, why wouldn't they being lying about "God" also. No reason to be offended over some-one else's religious beliefs.

Well said starmetroid, well said.

the Abrahamic 'god', sure

in any event, i meant the parallels between the two are quite similiar

they both are a fatherly figure type deal

they both know who's naughty or nice

they both reward you if you're good

they both forget about if you're bad

they both want/would like something in return; one wants milk and cookies the other wants obediance/prayer

and more, but whether it was intentional or not for saint nicholas to have these similiar attributes is beyond me, just something i noticed

Heh, I guess I like Santa as a mocking tribute to religion. Maybe there is something in that whole Santa/Satan anagram thing - maybe God really is the anti-Santa.

I'm a Muslim, so I would just tell them that he doesn't exist, and that even Christian kids eventually realize that once they grow up.

I doubted Santa's existence when I was a kid, probably because I was thinking too logical. Cos my house doesn't have a chimney and deers can't fly.

Dude I read this and totally realized Santa=Satan just swap a few letters around. Whats a better way to mock religion than to have children look to a mystical figure to deliver them gifts (of joy) on a religion's most celebrated night and name them Satan?

Seriously, let's read into it a little. Christmas is christianities' most widely celebrated holiday, in which "God", supposedly, gave man the ultimate gift in the form of his son, Jesus Christ. A couple hundred years later someone comes up with the idea of a Mystiacal figure that delivers gifts to the children of the world, on the night of said "saviors" birth and is named Santa (Satan). Come on do the math...

Sorry if this has offended you in any way, no offense was intended.

That's not likely considering that Santa Clause was modeled after a saint and Greek bishop by the name of Nikolaos of Myra, also known as Saint Nicholas.

No, i never really believed in it really. I may tell it as a fairy tale like the Easter Bunny but not as fact like Snow White.

Interesting... and I suppose coming down the chimney to bring presents is symbolic of man's descent into a fiery hell of unbridled capitalist gluttony. And is it merely coincidence that if you squint your eyes, the bauble covered tree looks just like a ripe marijuana plant, sparkling with forbidden fruit? It's clear to me that Xmas is a wicked and demonic festival.

I'm just merely pointing to the fact that maybe things aren't what they seem. Yeah, I know the backstory on how St. Nicholas was the secret gift-giver; just going with the booze driven thoughts in my head.

It's evident that you got where I was going with that.
