This video is pretty graphic, though.
Edit: Could someone link this? It keeps messing up when I try to.

Yep, well, that's what happens. People need to realise.
Edit: That was post 7000. But also on an empty (and sick) stomach that made me feel considerbaly worse. Ugh.
There are many studies out there that show Texting and Driving to be worse than Drinking and Driving

So should the penalties be just as bad...if you are caught, should you go to jail, get your license suspended, etc.
It is too bad that most people do not view these as the same...both are acts of stupidity that lack intent to hurt people, but do none the less
As far as I'm concerned there's enough education and awareness on the matter that if you STILL do it you deserve the strongest punishment. There are many studies out there that show Texting and Driving to be worse than Drinking and Driving

In the Uk we have a tendancy for hard hitting adverts.
The one with the son not doing his seatbelt while in the back of the car comes to mind! He flys forward into the seat in front of him his mothers sat in, she smashes her head on the steering wheel or somthing and seemingly dies.
Wow. The baby was a bit much wasn't it?ferron321maybe... but it's the reality of the situation. Texting (or a plethora of other dangerous driving habits) after more than just yourself. It's important that teens stop and think about things like this, it could save their lives (or another innocent persons).

Which one or both?
-I just think that the penalties need to be the same for both...they are the exact same crime IMO
I saw that a few days ago. Even though thats not real (please, even if it is real, don't tell me), it just feels me with rage. I hate texting as it is, but after seeing that video... I don't know really. Think there should be much harsher punishments if you are caught texting and driving, thats for sure.

Agreed.
I just get tired of all the people that will admit to texting and driving and villify drinking and driving.
I have had the argument in many forums and most posters will not admit that they are basically the same.
We do seem to have a thing for these 'shock' adverts here in the UK but i suppose it gets the point across to the idiot drivers that do these things. I guess il know what to expect when i see this come on TV when im eating my breakfast now...

Obviously this particular video isn't real. But the point is that avoidable collisions happen far too often, and yes, people of all ages die because of it.
A friend of mine on facebook posted that video and I was actually giggling throughout the whole thing. Not because I find death/serious injury funny, but because of how ridiculous it got. I mean, first she swerves into another lane and NO ONE notices..not her friends, not the other driver, not her...but whatever, such things happen. Then they get hit by another car which was more than far enough behind them to be able to come to a complete stop (was that guy supposed to be texting too I wonder?). Then she finds out she's killed all her friends. Then a hot guy comes up further adding to her embarrasment. Then she finds out she's killed a family. Then she's put on the news.
The whole thing just got too overdramatized. I know they're trying to scare people, but when they make it this soap opera-ish it just makes people laugh instead. It reminds me of a line from futurama:
"Give it to me straight doc...what happened"
"You've been in a coma for the past two weeks. Furthermore, while you were out, the plane piloted by your fiancee that was taking your entire family to your wedding crashed in South America"
It's a good ad. I hope people THINK about it though, and understand that dangerous habits like driving while texting CAN lead to a serious accident. Too many people have the "it'll never happen to me, because I'm a good driver and they're not" attitude.

Yeah. I just got my license a few days ago, but after watching this video, I'm much less excited about it.
Wow, I think the baby and dead parents were a little overkill now, don't you think? I am however glad they are putting this ad out there, and it's not something people will see and go "Dude that was awesome!", I hope they actually realize that could be a real scenario and it could happen to anyone. BladeOfHeavenI'd say the point was overkill...

You know, you've just got to pay attention - and that means paying attention not only to your car but to other cars. On a non-divided highway, I pay VERY close attention to every vehicle that is approaching me in the opposite direction, and I'm constantly scanning 30-60 seconds out. Give yourself time to react, and you won't find yourself blowing your horn hoping the other guy notices that he's coasting into your lane and you have nowhere to go. Don't listen to music unless you're in a comfortable situation with sparse traffic, turn your cell phone off if you have one, and don't let conversation with passengers distract your thought process from the road. In short, treat driving with respect and care, and you'll be fine. :D
i saw this video before and whats the purpose they're never going to learn.mayforcebeyou
The arrogant ones won't - but I think that this sort of advertising can have an effect on a lot more people than you think. Heck, I'm a defensive driver and this one even rattled me, because this sort of **** really happens. And sadly, it's usually completely avoidable.
Thats horrible =(
but imagine if you were the person texting them? I would feel guilt in the back of my head if i knew my conversation with those girls was what potentially ended their lives, even though its kinda common sense to not take your eyes off the road. I text all the time but to me it isnt a priority over the safety of myself while driving. especially where i live where its so populated like what if a person j-walks and you plow into them cause you didnt see them?

Thanks :D
I am a pretty good driver, thanks to my Nazi driving instructor (a.k.a. my dad), but I have at least learned to constantly watch for cars.
People who text all the time all morons who think that they have a life but in fact they don't.Their just wasting their time doing practically nothing well worth it

Not quite..
Anyway, although i recognized some of the actors and took some of the realism away from it, nevertheless it was extremely moving and really sends the message home. If i'm going to be blunt i feel that this is the kind of PSA's that need to be made, if not more graphic.
Also, texting whilst driving is a extremely stupid thing to do anyway, i never have and never will, and even if it was that important, i'd pull over.
I've already seen that. Very graphic, perhaps a little too much, but it gets the message across nice and clear. Don't do it. Also, it reminds me of something...
How the hell would that be real? :lol:I saw that a few days ago. Even though thats not real (please, even if it is real, don't tell me), it just feels me with rage. How the hell would that be real? I heard that the camera man in the car with the girls survived with only minor scratches.
I watched this not 24 hours ago. I lol'ed because some of the comments on youtube were; "oh my gosh, is this for real?!?" Yes. Yes, this is for real. People DID have cameras in both their cars, filmed everything, at every angle.
The UK does seem to like these graphic adverts. I will attempt to recall some
Stop Smoking - People squeezing tar and debris out of a smokers dead artery (not attached)
Stop Heavy Drinking - People falling off buildings
Stop DUI (as you know it in America) - Someone having a drink in a bar and then a fake car crash scene with lots of head smashing
Wearing Safety Belts - Three guys in a car with a pizza. First time, dont wear a seatbelt, crash, die or suffer injuries. Second time, wear the seatbelt, all is fine apart from the smashed car and pizza flew into the windscreen
A particularly noteworthy one - Dead child on the side of a road, is dragged to the middle of the road and comes back to life after a narration (by the child) says hitting her at 30mph will mean 80% chance of living, 35mph is 80% of death
Other Seatbelt adverts
Talking on a Cell Phone whilst driving - Man talking to wife whilst driving, says he will be home soon, how are the kids? Then crashes, the wife just keeps on saying "dave" (i cant remember his name) and starts crying
And plenty of others i cant remember right now

Very true, the thing is though they work, seeing as you can recall so many.
