I know it sounds like a weird comparision, but hear me out for a sec. Both of these films are about people who support dangerous things, both of them chronicle the rise, fall and rise again of the main character, both of them show the family life of the main character and how his family or friends who disagree with him at some point, and both of these films are very satirical. Overall I think Lord of War is more interesting.

Have you ever seen Lord of War? Also Nicholas Cage is not that bad of an actor, he was really good in raising arizona, adaptation and face off.

The reasoning I've heard most often is that to them, he always takes the same approach to becoming the character and always ends up being the same person.

I liked it alot as well. It was advertised wrong, people thought they were going to see a goofy slapstick comedy when it was really much deeper than that.

I'm going to be honest. I'm on the fence about him. I'm not a fan of his, but then again I'm no hater either. But in all fairness, I think even my judgement is a little skewed because of the following that I am about to say...

I have not seen Raising Arizona, Adaptation, Lord of War, or The Weather Man.

Thank you for smoking I would say is better after repeated viewings, Lord of war was fun and interesting but I doubt it would hold for me now. Eckhart played a far more interesting charactor than Cage I felt, the film was also a better look at said charactor when comparing the two, besides I always love those big senate hearing in washington where the defendent just destroys the senator so I have a soft spot for it it seems.

More and more I'm getting the idea that I should watch it. I've been planning on renting a bunch of movies so it could definitely be on the list.

I'm another Nicolas Cage hater... I thought National Treasure was one of the biggest wastes of my $8 in recent history, but I think my real hatred of him stems to a poster of him that was in my 10th grade english teachers class. I had a very strong sense of dislike for that woman, so I think I may have subliminal hatred for Nicolas Cage. I love Thank You for Smoking, though, and I avoid NC movies any chance I get, so I doubt I'll see Lord of War.

Favorite quote: "After watching the footage of the Kent State shootings, Bobby Jay, then seventeen, signed up for the National Guard so that he too could shoot college students."

Sorry Nick. :P

Yeah, Weather Man was my favorite. The Family Man, Gone in 60 Seconds, Con Air were really fantastic. I also think that the newer movies like National Treasure movies are so fun to watch. He has contributed a lot to the movie industry whether you like him or not. To me, he's better than most actors, if anything. All his success happened for a reason. He's a likeable guy on screen.

Besides the opening sequence I didn't like Lord of War... It just got so melodramatic.

Ive seen both at least five times, and t heyre both very entertaining.

so, the ultimate question is...do you want a charming, interesting comedy that makes fun of big tobacco and has someone we love to hate (a lobbyists)?

or do you want a dark, gritty movie with action that has someone we love to hate (a gunrunner)?

I cant decide.

Definately Lord of War. The intro is one of my favorites in any movie.

Sweet intro

Both good films, though of different tones I suppose.

The Weather man is a really strange film in someways. That subplot involving his son - I found that to be so unnerving and uncomfortable - it was as though it belonged to a completely different film.
