Carmakers and dealerships are suffering the world over but a ****c Ferrari has bucked the trend by selling for a record €9m.
The 1957 250 Testa Rossa sold at the RM Auctions/Sotheby's sale in Maranello - the same event where Chris Evans spent £5.5m on another ****c Ferrari last year.

At the time Evans' 250 SWB California Spyder set a new auction record but the Testa Rossa has smashed that by nearly €2m in a new high for a car sold at auction. All of which goes to show that even in the midst of a global recession ****c Ferraris are still a solid investment.
So what makes this car worth so much? Well, rarity is always a factor and with just 22 Ferrari 250 TRs ever made this car certainly wins on that score. Racing provenance is always worth a few dollars more too, this car having competed extensively at the time, including racing at the Buenos Aires 1,000km in 1958.
Built from between 1957 and 1958, Ferrari 250 TRs won 10 out of 19 world championship races entered ensuring legend status and sealing its reputation as a true winner. That its voluptuous Scaglietti designed bodywork is also stunningly beautiful only adds to its allure, the Testa Rossa among the most jaw-droppingly beautiful racing cars ever.
The name - literally 'red head' - apparently relates to the red-painted cam covers and was carried over to Ferrari's 80s supercar, itself an automotive pin-up for a generation of young petrolheads. This one though is, literally, in a league of its own, its mystery buyer now the owner of a true four-wheeled work of art.
