Both of these films are great modern westerns in different ways, the assassination of jesse james is more Poetic and it looks nicer while The Proposition is a very dirty and brutal western set in the outback of Australia. Overall I prefer THe Proposition.

I thought that was mediocre at best, Renee Zellweggar is awful and the humor seemed out of place. Nothing really interesting happened, which is a shame cause I wanted to like it because the cast was great but they were just wasted to me.

I've never seen The Proposition, so I'd have to go with Assassination by default.

Meh again I wasnt a huge fan of that, good acting but it was pretty generic. The Proposition manages to do something different with the western.

You should see it, really good film. It has Guy Pearce, Ray Winstone, and John Hurt.

I liked it a lot. Ben Foster was such a great villain.

The assassination of Jesse James is one of my favorite movies, so I pick that.

The characters in Appalosa where awesome in idea they where very orignial, but ended up very poorly in the movie.

Appalosa seemed like it didnt know what it wanted to be, the humor fell flat and tried to hard and the drama was too dull and uninteresting for the most part. Shame, it had a great cast and Ed Harris is a good director.

I loved the Assassination of Jessie James. Fantastic movie, The Proposition was good, but nowhere near AOJJ for me.

Proposition. The first one (I'm too lazy to type the name even though I realize I've now typed more letters at this point) was just boring. Like, really boring. I mean, a man can only watch Casey Affleck mentally undress Brad Pitt for so long before he goes insane.

I've rented both just yesterday. And I've watched The Assasination of Jesse James. I'm really impressed by it. Hopefully The Proposition is just as good.

Although i thought The Proposition was great, I watched The Assassination of Jesse James for the second time a few weeks back, and although the first time around I didnt think much of it, after the second viewing I realized how amazing and beautiful the film was.

Both a very good films, but after awhile I think the visuals for The Assassination of Jesse James by the coward Robert Ford just got too much in the way of telling a well-paced story. I like the grittiness and very nihilistic feel to Hillcoat's The Propostion. It's no wonder Hillcoat was hired to adapt Cormac McCarthy's The Road.

The Proposition. Its rare a film gives such atmosphere as The Proposition did. It felt so grim and gritty yet somehow mystical.
