I'm thinking that perhaps this is one of those films where I should've watched in the theaters, because I simply couldn't appreciate it at home.

I don't know, but most of it was so typical for me. The little character development, pacing problems... kind of generic. I don't know, but I was actually waiting for the film to be over. The last 15 minutes where actually good, but damn that beginning was so slow.

I must admit I'm not an action movie fan. I really like story heavy films.

Note, I know I'm late but I missed the film last summer. Also this is just my opinion, not fact... just incase I get gang raped.

Seems to me like you are a good judge of movies. Avengers was a piece of trash. Everybody j*zzed their pants when they saw some superheroes team up. No story, CGI orgy, illogical characters and plots, bad movies.

I wouldn't call it bad, but I felt like it was a pretty typical and ordinary action film. I expected something else. I was actually surpised with the villian... out of all the villains they could have chosen... loki?

OB-47

It's a mix bag for me. Some of the highlights where the fighting, but it has to be near the last 15 minutes of the alien fight. The dialouge for me was cringe-worthy, I was screaming "Shut the f#$k up and fight. I want to see the hulk smash!"

Never saw this movie and not sure what's so super awesome about it (maybe I'll find it super awesome once I watch it) but either way... *feels like an outcast.*

I liked it, though the opening act was admittedly pretty slow.

Well there's your problem. Avenger's story was basically nonexistent, it was really just a Marvel showcase with explosions and Joss dialogue.

The Avengers lacks any sort of impact on the viewer unless they've seen the bulk of the Marvel Cinematic Universe films released prior, the majority of which were flat-out tie-ins meant to build up hype for The Avengers.

After all, the only real purpose of The Avengers was to showcase all your favorite Marvel heroes (unless you like Spider-Man or X-Men) on the same screen blowing sh*t up.

True, but being a fan of the the other films also meant that the first 40 mins of The Avengers' character establishing-ness was completely pointless. The pacing was mostly dead until Thor appeared.

Still, the last fight scene was pretty fantastic. Difficult not to nerdgasm at that.

Surely you mean "it was a film, of course it will be best experienced in a cinema..."? :P

I mean, visual and sound fidelity aside, nothing tops seeing a great film with a great audience.

It was the first movie in a long time that I walked out of the theatre feeling like I was a kid again. I had not felt that excited since I saw X-MEN 2 when I was 12. Seeing as this movie came out just before I turned 22, that's saying a lot. I feel like it definitely would have had a larger impact in theatres..and I also went into it expecting nothing and walked out quite impressed. I saw it 3 times in theatres because so many of my friends wanted to see it on seperate occasions and that was all within a week and it never got old to me. Is it perfect? God no. Was it a fun movie going experience with multiple elements driving the story, compiling enough for almost everyone to be entertained? Absolutely. It's also one of the few movies that maintains my attention during the final action battle. It wasn't trying to be a theatrical masterpiece, it was just a fun ride.

The reason they picked Loki, I assume, is because Loki was the first villain the Avengers fought in the comics. The fract that he was already establiches in the Marvel Cinematic Universe and the most likely to pose a substantial threat to the team they assembled probably also worked in his favor.

As a fan of super heroes, I thoroughly enjoyed the movie. I didn't want a deep, thought-provoking masterpiece, I wanted fun character interactions and super hero action, and on that level the movie delivered. There's room for a strong story in super hero movies, but this movie decided on another direction and pulled it off, I think.

That all said, it's just another summer blockbuster at the end of the day. I personally don't understand the hype for it. I didn't think the Avenegers were that well known outside of comic book fans. I always thought movie going audiences would be more hyped to see the Justice League. Hrm. :\

I agree. Saw it with a group of friends during the summer in theaters. They all loved it, I thought it was shallow, unoriginal and pandering. But then again thats how most summer block busters have been these past few years. Plenty of CGI and action, but lacking everywhere else.

But we've seen them do better, there's no reason for a movie helmed by Joss Whedon of all people to have such a weak plot.

I went into avengers expcting awdsome actoon, fights, explosions, etc. and that's exactly what I got, along with some great dialogue.

I thought avengers was great.
