Anyone who watched the national championship knows that Alabama won. Does this mean the SEC is the best conference? I still think without a playoff system they cannot be called true champions. Just because there is a SEC championship they get an automatic bid to the National Championship it seems like. This year in my opinion the Mountain West had the best conference while Boise State had the best team in college football. Sure people will say they have a weak division but that isn't there fault. If the SEC had any courage they would schedule more games against this school. No teams want to play Boise State. At least we can see them play Oregon State and Virginia Tech next year, and perhaps another undefeated season with another BCS bid. I think a playoff system is the next step in college football, thats the only way to determine if the SEC is all it is cracked up to be.

Considering the fact Alabama was playing a Texas team who played a mediocre schedule, and had a freshman QB playing, who didn't start a game all season..

the game was surprisingly close.. and I didn't see Alabama show any sign of dominance. I think there are a handful of teams that could have beat Alabama in that game.

Boise State would not have been undefeated if they played in the SEC. Simple as that. Anyone can knocked off a ranked team once in a season, but to play quality opponents every day game in and game out is quite a difference. Cincinatti was whining about why they werent in the BCS championship game and they got annihilated by Florida. I'd love to see a playoff system too - if not just to see teams like Boise State, TCU, etc. get trashed by the real powerhouses.

I would love a playoff but I doubt it will happen due to the fact that the schools make so much money on going to bowl games and they don't want to screw the smaller schools...

texas lost its QB and had a true freshmen playin and still came back, even tho they should of never had the chance to get that close, alabama got content and just sat on their lead and decided to just run and punt which let texas get back into it, i dont like either team very much but alabama had that game won as soon as mccoy was out

I don't like the system of how they pic the top teams. Also Big 10 is the best conference.

Iowa could have easily been national championship contender if their QB didn't get hurt.. their 2 losses were for that reason. Penn State beat LSU(often a prominent SEC team) in their bowl game Ohio State beat a good Oregon St team Wisconsin beat a good Miami team in their bowl game Overall the big 10 was 4-3 in bowl games.. and had 7 teams from their conference representing. That's pretty impressive. I think the big 10 is in a lot better shape then it's been giving credit for. But for some reason because the big 10 doesn't have a national championship contender it's some how falling behind. I just don't buy it. The Big 10 conference is a more challenging conference than the big 12. And I really only see the SEC as it's honest competitor.

SEC is overrated because it has TV deals and the most media exposure. Of course everyone in the media is going to say the SEC is the best becasue they want people to watch them. This influences the BCS rankings because they believe the hype too. SEC needs to schedule stongers non conference games. I don't see them play the PAC 10 or the Mountian West very often. Next season Flordia will not even leave there state against non conferecne teams. SEC likes to play sub division teams.

Most of the big boy conf.'s play small time non-conf. schedules -just the way it is for the big conf's -good tune up -play tough conf. schedule -don't want to risk a loss b/c no playoff system -good for the small schools they play

They really should adopt a playoff system. The NCAA mens basketball tournament is a huge success both for the sport and also financially. Why college football doesnt do something similar, I have no idea.

1. The bowls...no...they can still keep them in the playoff system (keep the other bowl games + playoff with BCS bowls) 2. The money...no...they would make more 3. Classes/Finals...no...they care little for that during March Madness 4. Time...no...there is plenty b/w the end of the season and the Championship (a month) 5. Injury/too many games...just play one less game during the year LOGIC FAIL

Exactly. If anything, I think it would improve the quality of football too. There's too long of a layoff between the end of the season and the bowl games. Some teams get real rusty.

And its not like most of those players have any business being in college in the first place.

Also, they say it will hurt the 'regular' season...false...if there are only 8 spots, 1 loss could knock you out of the playoffs (5 undefeated teams this year)

2 losses and done almost for sure (unless you have a hell of a schedule...which could lead to better matchups if they go to more of a March Madness strength of schedule selection format) 1 loss for a smaller school and done though

Alabama got cocky when McCoy went down. They started playing not to lose until Gilbert figured out that Shipley was on the field.
