Unlike some of the greatest artists, not all their material is regarded as some of the greatest ever. It seems they only hit their stride in the mid 60s.

Which ones are worth listening too as im trying to get into them?

If you ask me, everything is worth listening to, From Please, Please Me to Let it Be. If you were to start somewhere, I'd say pick up their album "1". It has all their greatest hits and many of their songs you couldn't find on a studio album. Then I'd say pick up Abbey Road because that's their best album. My second favorite is White Album, but really you can't go wrong with anything. Most people prefer their material from Rubber Soul to Abbey Road the best, some not liking Magical Mystery Tour, but I do and I think it's one of their best.

Honestly, all of them. Their early stuff is a bit "popish", but it isn't bad. If you're just getting into the Beatles I'd suggest picking up the blue and red albums. The red one is their greatest hits from the early days and the blue one is their later stuff. If you're looking for individual albums, Rubber Soul, Revolver, and Sgt. Peppers are my favorites.

Well ive decided to embark on long musical journey, listening to some of the greatest rock musicians out there. Ive grown tired of anything recent and i know itll take me years but at least ill try. Ive decided im going to listen to their post-Help! stuff as i simply dont have the capacity to listen to it all. BTW, can anyone else give me recommendations for these bands? REM Led Zeppelin Pink Floyd Queen Aerosmith Rolling Stones (way too many albums) Kiss (these guys have way too many aswell!) Megadeth Def Leppard Bob Marley Ive got a much longer list, but many of them have short discographies or feature prominently throughout the Rolling Stones 500 Great Albums

Really all releases were enjoyable.

As for REM get everything from the 80's as well as Out of Time and Automatic for the People. Then pick up the best of from their later years (has a moon on the cover) and finally pick up their latest Accelerate.

REM
Led Zeppelin- Led Zeppelin I and IV are good places to start
Pink Floyd- Wish You Were Here and Dark Side of the Moon are two of thir best albums
Queen- If you want a greatest hits album, go with ****c Queen. Most oftheir good stuff is on there.
Aerosmith- Toys in the Attic and Aerosmith are two of their better early albums
Rolling Stones (way too many albums)-My favorite is Stick Fingers, but if you want more of a greatest hits album, go with Hot Rocks
Kiss (these guys have way too many aswell!)
Megadeth- The metalheads could help you more, but I personally like Peace Sells and Rust in Peace.
Def Leppard
Bob Marley

Ive got a much longer list, but many of them have short discographies or feature prominently throughout the Rolling Stones 500 Great Albums

My recommendations are in green.

REM Murmur and Reckoning (their first two albums) are their best. Automatic for the People has recieved quite a lot of critical acclaim as well but I'm not a massive fan.

Led ZeppelinI - IV are all regarded as classics - as are Houses of the Holy and Physical Graffiti. I don't really like Zeppelin anymore. III is my favourite (and the only one I really listen to these days) but IV is generally regarded as their best.

Pink FloydDark Side of the Moon and Wish You Were Here are regarded as their best albums.

QueenI don't like Queen but A Night at the Opera is regarded as their best studio album.

Aerosmith/Not Worth your time

Rolling Stones (way too many albums) You're right, The Rolling Stones have such a huge discography that they can be hard to get into. Their best album is Exile on Main Street. If you're going to get one that should be the one you get. If you're going to get two get that and Sticky Fingers. But both of those albums, Aftermath, Between the Buttons, Beggars Banquet and Let it Bleed are all essential Rolling Stones albums.

Kiss (these guys have way too many aswell!) Don't bother with Kiss

Megadeth or these guys

Def Leppard or these guys either

Bob Marley Legend

As for Beatles albums, everything post-Help! up until (and including) Abbey Road is essential. Well, apart from the Yellow Submarine album.

and to be honest there are far better artists on the Rolling Stone top 500 list (which is a pretty poor list by the way) than the ones you listed. Like Bob Dylan, The Velvet Underground, Love, The Beach Boys, Neil Young, Tom Waits, The Band, Patti Smith, Captain Beefheart, the Zombies, Television, Talking Heads, Joy Division, The Stooges... Check some of those guys out too.

Also, on a slightly unrelated note, why is the word "cl.ass" forbidden on here? :?

@TC-- REM -- not too much of a fan Zeppelin -- Just buy the boxed set with all of their albums. If you have to pick between them, then I, II, IV, Houses of the Holy, and Physical Grafitti Queen -- A Night at the Opera, Greatest Hits, Classic Queen Aerosmith -- Toys in the Attic, Greatest Hits, Rocks, Permanent Vacation, Pump Rolling Stones -- Hot Rocks, Let It Bleed, Sticky Fingers, Exile on Main St. Kiss - Not a fan at all. Megadeth - Rust in Peace, Peace Sells, Countdown to Extinction Def Leppard - Not much of a fan, but Pyromania I guess Bob Marley - Start with Legend, then if you like it, he's got a lot of strong albums -- Catch a Fire, Exodus, Natty Dread, Live, Rastaman Vibration, Survival, Burnin' Beatles - glad you're interested in listening to their albums as greatest hits collections don't do them justice... I'd make it a point to listen to Help, Rubber Soul, Revolver, Sgt. Pepper, Magical Mystery Tour, The White Album, Abbey Road, Let It Be, and Past Masters vol. 1&2
