Talkdemonic is sorta violin centric. They're a beautiful band. Don't really know if this is at all what you're looking for, but check out this video. Very strange video. Listen to the whole thing, for best results.

EDIT: I was pretty blown away when I heard their album Eyes at Half Mast. Check that out of the song I linked interests you at all.

neurosis-the tide. still, i dont like that most non-classical songs featuring the violin simply use it for color when the violen is capable of more than a cowbell or some other other color instrument. still, ill let neurosis slide because they use a lot of other instruments in the same way on that album and it legitemizes it more.

Ashley MacIssac's very good, even though he is a pederast. (sound quality is kinda crap on that link though). This one's got better sound quality, but it's more of just a jam session than anything else.

Boiled in Lead has some good stuff too.

Some people really like Loreena McKennitt but just a little to Enya-esque hippy dippy whispery for me.

For ****cal, you can't do better than Mozart's violin concerto #3. or my personal fave, Vivaldi's Summer.
