Would someone explain the Big Bang Theory to me? I'd like to know:
1) Where those two particles came from.
2) Why they were both moving at such high speeds.
3) How they managed to hit eachother when they're so small and space is (possibly) infinite.
4) How two particles hitting at high speeds creates an almost infinite amount of particles.

That's not how it worked, all the matter in the universe was sucked into a dot the size of a pin point and imploded...

It doesn't explain how the original universe came to be, and if it imploded that would mean that it got even smaller. Collapsed into itself.
If someone would explain the Big Bang Theory more thoroughly, I would appreciate it.

It didn't implode...it expanded...space itself, that is.

There were no two particles.. and actually the big bang doesn't deal with what actually "caused" the universe, it deals with what happened soon after the big bang and the evolution of the universe. Generally, it is described as energy being condensed into a singularity, which expanded (no explosion) rapidly, creating the fundamental particles that everything is beilt upon today. Then it goes on to further explain the evolution of our universe.
There are multiple "theories" as to how the universe was actually created. Vacuum fluctuations is one, and there's the black hole theory.. but those are all pretty much speculative at this point, there is no evidence that diretly points to either hypothesis.

If we knew that, we wouldn't have 100 religion threads a day here in OT....

WE DON"T KNOW. Science doesn't claim to know everything, and similarly with this theory, (as far as I know) there is no real guess at what exactly it was either. That doesn't mean it is weak theory, just that humans can't know everything.
I like to believe in the Big Bang/Big Crunch cycle, but my question to the OP is, do you believe god influences things still today? Does there have to be a god to have started the big bang?

Well that's what we don't know. Like I said in my previous post, some suggest it was a vacuum fluctuation, some suggest that a universe is created with every black hole, and ours happen to have been created in another universe and our universe "gave birth" to other universes, and some say that there is an alternate realm where universes (such as ours) are constantly being created -- each one with random properties. So.. just pick whichever fancies you the most. Or you can go with god, whatever.
Bible is a book written by MAN. It's meant to be more of a guide than a collection of historical facts. Only God himself knows for sure of how he created everything. God very well might have used the Big Bang and evolution.
Think about it, God knew we would eventually want answers as to how we got here. How animals are they way they are. What happened in the Earth's past. Etc... He also knew that one day, we would be advanced enough to start figuring out these questions. So he made the path of our existence explainable by science. Why? Because if you have scientific evidence of how everything came to be and yet STILL choose to believe in God....that's true faith right there.
I believe in the big bang and I'm Christan. How you wonder? I think that god created every thing with the big bang so there was a big bang god just made it happen.corynx22Well, that's convenient, and I don't mean the statement in a pejorative sense . . . it really is convenient. Unfortunately, its appeal is basically limited to convenience.
Well the idea that God created the universe is pretty farfetched and I don't see the Big Bang as a plausible theory either, I have no idea but I know that there are too many holes in these ideals for me to believe in them, much less lay my life down in defense of them.
Of course I could be completely wrong and I accept that.
Definitive proof will never be found because we are searching in the wrong places.

how could the universe be sucked into a dot the size of a pin point if the universe wasn't created yet?Actually the big bang theory was thought up by a catholic priest...RavirrYup, It was sometime in the early-mid 1900's. A catholic priest somewhere in Belgium came up with the Theory of the Primeval Atom which is has now developed into the big bang theory.
I think we should stop thinking about what created the Universe..and start living our lives..lolaaronmullan
Perhaps you have a different definition of what living life is. To quote Socrates..."The Unexamined Life Is Not Worth Living."
Most people live life to question certain things and to gain knowledge and become wise. That is living life and you should try it sometime because the majority of people don't see life like this and it is unfortunate.

how could the universe be sucked into a dot the size of a pin point if the universe wasn't created yet?How can there be millions of galaxies/solar systems/planets/etc like our own out there and no other signs of life? There IS life out there other than our own, and did GOD create them too? If so, do they worship them as well? Unlikely... Thats why i prefer science. Its concrete. God is just a myth, an imaginary friend for grown ups if you will (no offense)

Cosmological theory holds that vacuum fluctuations (an observed a verified phenomenon that essentially amounts to ex nihilo creation in a sneaky way allowed by the uncertainty principle) account for it. In addition to virtual particle pair creation, vacuum fluctuation allows pockets of spacetime itself to also instantiate. The notion is that negative energy pressure led this infinitesimal pocked of spacetime to expand, seeking equilibrium. You can read up on M-theory and inflationary theory to get a much more detailed explanation of this line of thought. It accounts for a number of observed properties of the universe, particularly the uniformity of the cosmic microwave background radiation, and is on pretty solid theoretical footing, though of course, it is still subject to a lot of verification and details of it, or indeed the whole thing, may end up being adjusted.for god to have created the big bang, he must have been pretty old. i don't believe in god. i'd sooner believe in a talking pile of doggy doo. and besides, how could he have made the big bang if nothing existed? which means he couldn't have existed. and saying that he created the universe means he is the ruler of the universe and not just earth. that means he could rule alien civilizations. this makes no sense, im leaving. *walks away*101_king

I'm pretty sure any person that could definitively answer that question wouldn't be browsing the gamespot forums, they would be picking up their Nobel prize for figuring one of the great unsolved mysteries of the universe.

Why not? I thought it was somewhat clever and he does make a good point. We have absolutely no idea how the universe came to be.
[QUOTE="Brainkiller05"]I'm a Christian but i don't believe in god.Mr_SesshomaruHow does that work? :? I think its a typo :?
I am not sure about the Big Bang. They say the universe is flat which means it is infinite because a straight line will always be a straight line. They also say the universe began with the Big Bang and is not only expanding but is doing so at an increasing rate. How can both be true? They contradict each other?
The universe can only expand if it is a finite object. The universe can not expland if it is infiinite. Maybe just the visible universe is expanding at the moment within the infinite universe?
