So I just got back from seeing The Book of Eli. I loved it. Denzel is a great actor and he can still kick ass apparently too. The action was great and the story was good too. So how many of you all have seen it too?

Last I checked on Rottentomatoes, critics were saying its crap, but since it's a Denzel movie, I still wanna check it out. Even if the movie sucks, atleast I know Denzel will act well enough to make it worth atleast a single viewing.II_Seraphim_II
I don't trust critics ever when it comes to movies, especially blockbuster action movies. They said ninja assassin was crap and it was the movie I enjoyed the most last year :D

When critics say it's crap and people say it's good, it's usually the actor that's entertaining but the rest is crap (or it's a hollywood action movie).[QUOTE="II_Seraphim_II"]Last I checked on Rottentomatoes, critics were saying its crap, but since it's a Denzel movie, I still wanna check it out. Same here with the Ninja Assassin thing. God that movie was awesome for no conceivable reason. Also, I must say the movie is good. But, if you absolutely hate Christianity - This probably is not the movie for you.Ya I thought the same thing if you aren't religous people are going to look at this movie the wrong way, but if you go in with an open mind then you see just how incredible the movie is. It has great pacing. It's not just some action flick or lame boring 2 hours of dialogue, it has a great mix of both and Denzel is amazing. Whatever you do don't listen to the critics. I looked on yahoo movies and the Critics gave it a B+ and Users Gave it a B+ so don't listen to Rotten Tomatoe.
I thought movie looked average. Despite all these great reviews I've been seeing/hearing.
Swanogt19
All these 'great reviews' you been seeing and hearing must be coming from 15 year olds and the IGN review (written by 15 year olds), because the critical response by people who know what they're talking about has been extremely negative. I have absolutely no interest in seeing it.

I am talking about the one's that are a part of the trailers on tv.[QUOTE="TommyCasual"][QUOTE="Swanogt19"]

What's with all the IGN hate here on GS? It's so intense. II_Seraphim_II
I happen to really enjoy IGN, and apologize for any hate I've slung around. Probably not cool of me. I just can't handle their movie and tv sections, which I feel are a bit of a joke. When it comes to games they have some of the better reviews and when it comes to both games and comics they are one of the absolute best places for news. But when it comes to movies and tv, they are just a bunch of gaming kids writing about things they don't understand as deeply and I tend to drastically disagree with them.
It was okay. Not much about it stood out though. Post apocalptic settings have been done so often that it is hard for one to stand out. I liked how this felt like a western at times, but overall it was just a decent nothing special movie. I dont like Mila kunis much. I would give it a 6, maybe a 6.5. Nothing special but still worth seeing I guess.
It's alright. Not a modern epic or the most intense movie ever as the trailer would have me believe, but it was a fun movie.
I enjoyed it up until a certain part: ***SPOILERS***SPOILERS***SPOILERS***SPOILERS***SPOILERS***SPOILERS***SPOILERS***SPOILERS***SPOILERS*** When you find out that the book Eli is carrying ends up being the bible, the whole movie seemingly has the whole "religion is cool, it kicks ass, so you should believe in god now!" thing going for it. I'm an atheist personally so having that happen almost destroyed the movie for me. The fact that he ended up being blind proved that 'god guided him to the west' and I feel that this was incredibly ridiculous. PistolGripPump
Yeah that part was a bit ridiculous. I am cool with religous metaphors, but that was just way too forced. Though I would find it interesting if the book was the Koran or Dianetics by L. Ron Hubbard. Wonder how people would react to that.

I didn't even see that as a surprise. The first time I saw a TRAILER for the movie, when they said something about him carrying around the most important book in the world + the fact that he's walking around a post-apocalyptic wasteland, I just assumed that was what it was about.
I came in skeptical and not really expecting much, but after watching, I will be adding this to my home movie collection. A great film. If they ever have a Fallout movie, I want the Hughes brothers to direct it too.
gago-gago
I like the Hughes Brothers, but I think a better director for a Fallout movie would be John Hillcoat. His films The Proposition, and The Road show he can could do Fallout perfectly.

I highly agree.

Actually, I usually tend to trust the critics. They get paid to review movies, and many of them know more about movies than your average movie watcher.
i read an early review of the movie from off msn. "he uses the bible as a weapon"... i quote. and not by banging it over the head of someone either.
i have not seen the movie yet and i will give the movie a pass. i would have liked to have seen this is it and was almost going to see surrogates, some months ago.

No not really, it really wasnt supposed to be an action movie. It really seemed like what the world would be like after an apacolypse. Also, did anybody noticed that the movie's setting looked just like Fallout 3???i read an early review of the movie from off msn. "he uses the bible as a weapon"... i quote. and not by banging it over the head of someone either

hmm... what did you mean by that???

yea, and Gary Oldman (as the bad guy, I guess?) is pretty sweet, too. I think even if the writing and plot are bad, those two actors can make the movie with seeing.

Ok don't take this the wrong way, its your choice to be atheist and that is cool imo, but never bash a movie cause it has a religous message to it. People act like there are a ton of these religous movies out there but there really aren't. If anything there is a ton of anti-religion movies out there that claim that god isn't real and if so why does he sit by and let people die and stuff like that. There are barely any religous movies these days so using this as an excuse to why a movie won't be/isn't good is completely stupid. No offense to you, like I said its your choice its just you shouldn't judge a movie based on religous/anti-religous aspects.

I feel differently [spoiler] I was shocked when we found out that he was blind, but in the close up scene on his eye, the really focused on his right eye and his left looked different. I have a feeling that he was half blind. At first I thought it was ridiculous how he shot the men on top of the tower while being blind. I doubt his heightened senses of smell and hearing would give him such accuracy. This led me to believe he is blind in one eye. That would have made the movie 50 times better on funny value . I only saw it for Tom Waits and Tom Waits is the man 8). Though it wasn't worth it for this movie :(.[QUOTE="Film-Guy"]

It's funny the film was hyped for being Heath ledger's last role, but he wasn't even very good in it. Christopher plummer, and tom waits are the best parts by far. I am a huge Terry Gilliam fan, so even thought the plot took a while to get going I loved the film.
