We're a democracy and even during the war (the Gettysburg Address), Lincoln argues for self determination. If it was the will of the South to secede, then it should have been permitted, if we are to call ourselves remotely democratic. It also screwed up race and ruined the South. Abolitionists were certainly around in the South and historians generally agree that slavery would've been gone in the South by the 1880s. Imagine that, the South said for itself that slavery should be abolished. The race problems extant today would be perfectly nonexistent. No Klan, far less racism. And also, hundreds of thousands of people not dead. But no, one nation is better than two. Thoughts?

Well at first the Civil War was about the South becoming a whole other country, not freeing the slaves.

I do not agree with any war's occurence, all of it is fabricated to contribute to the demand for a war, my theory is that it is all a form of population control, and power shifts. Different groups of people want power, and the most effective way to do that is with wars, racism was created to build motivation for these people to go to war. The Civil War was a crime, and so was every other war we have ever participated in, as well as the wars we have not participated in. Including the war we are in now.

Yes. In fact, if I could go back in time, I would have tried to bring the south and north to the table and had them work things out.

it needed to happen, you cant have an agricultural part of a nation leave for an unjust cause, and your guesses about racism and the end of slavery cant be backed up

BS. The South left the Union based completely upon slavery. They didn't want to lose their slaves, because apparently the prospect of work was that terrifying to them. Southern Abolitionists in the South? Where the hell did you pull that out of? And what makes you think these people held any real power in the government? Sorry, but one or two random abolitionists are not going to change Southern ieaology which revolved COMPLETELY around slavery and non existent conspiracies to steal their rights. Southern lifestyle revolved around slavery for the past several hundred years. What makes you think that they would give it up without a fight? "Let's secede from the Union while denying rights to an entire ethnic class!"

You seem to be taking a more freeing the slaves notion then about the American Civil War being a crime.

I added that as an afterthought. My point was about self determination.
