I think Dan Brown is a hack that just novelized 6-8 of the most well known religous and templar related conspiracys.

I agree. I think it is much better suited to the movie treatment too. I'm looking forward to seeing it.

That Dan Brown is the result of an old Soviet plan to defeat the western world by destroying our ability to read and write in an articulate and intelligent manner. And if it weren't for his failed attempt at being a pop singer, it probably would have worked.

It was entertaining. I took it for what it was: a work of fiction. I'm surprised a lot of people believed it.

Yeah, that was quite a stupid spell. People treated it as a textbook; I would say "Look on the back cover. See the word 'fiction'?"

The divinci code was the equivalent of a popcorn flick...enjoyable fluff.......I kinda equate it to the Blair Witch Project....it was good...but people turned it into this cult following and bought into it...thus making it the most overhyped book in history...

I am just pointing out I can back how I feel. I must agree though,a lot of people do do the same without a real opinion because its the thing to do. thats why I defended having the opinion and not the opinion itself. So I do not completely disagree with you,I am just not one of that group.

Yes, Sophie or whatever her name is tells Langdon how she caught her grandpa secksing some chicks in the basement while wearing masks. And there's a bit about how males stop thinking during orgasm etc.

If memory serves, there was a sentence within the first few pages that said something about the book being based on historical facts or something. I think that's what got to some readers.

You would be correct. Dan Brown defended the authenticity of the Priority of Sion, which in truth turned out to be some organization that originated in France in 1956.

I'd advise Theo not to read it, because it makes as much sense when you look at it as truth as the 9/11 conspiracies.

It works as an art of fiction, but the theories and stories that build the story are altered or completely falsified. The book should not be taken in any way as a serious analysis of Christianity nor should any part of it be taken as undeniable truth. Its a work of fiction. I've seen people actually consider it fact, which bothers me because it is the exact opposite.

It's not an issue of being fashionable, it's an issue of how one of the most popular authors in recent memory has the writing ability of an above-average high-school student.

It is a very well written and engaging book, I like it alot, more so then angels & deamons.

It might be a bit heavy if you are not used to reading, he does not exactly use the smallest words in the world, but honestly? If anyone has passed 10th grade, then youd be fine reading it ^^

Yes, he's definitely not the worst, and yes he's writing a novel not a historical essay. But if people really take him as what he is: a so so writer fabricating a fiction, there wouldn't be all these "controversy" and hype. And he intentionally fueled all the "controversy" as a publicity stunt to sell books. He's ambiguous about what is "fact" (if there's any in his book), and what is fiction. He wants people to take him seriously enough to generate controversy, but when things get worse, he hides under the "fiction" umbrella. His book is entertaining for a little while, like most supermarket novels, good for a laugh, I give him that much. But like people said above me, neither his theory nor his writing is original. And I have to say, his books are extremely formulated (yes, I've read both). The storyline runs exactly the same way, the characters are built according to the same model, the structure is the same done to the last detail. You read one you know them all. He has no imagination so to speak, and I think that is crucial for a writer.

Writing a book isn't just about your actual writing ability.
