I thought it looked pretty awesome until you hear him say "If you die, the Earth survives". That's so damn cliche, wrong logic and it probably explains the entire movie plot.
It's an old movie, but I think it was very well done and stands the test of time. edit, it's basically an anti-war movie...that's the underlying theme.
