Yesterday(the 27th) I received news that two best friends died in a car crash. Now I didn't know the deceased. One of them was my schoolmate, so I saw him around but was it; never exhanged a word with him. As for the other, it was the first I heard about him.

But, as soon as I heard the news, a great fear came over me and I was scared s***less. I was f***ing trembling! Thoughts about my dying raced through my head, and to make matters worse, I was thinking about 'how' I was going to die the night before, and that too, frightened me.

Death is inevitable, but the unpredictability of it scares me the f*** out.

So OT, do have a fear of death too?

Is death something that's constantly on your mind? Or do you just live your life as a free spirit, with not a care in the world?

for me, its not death itself that makes me nervous. its what happens after you die? where do you go? is there light all around you? is there only darkness? what will happen to you? will you still exist, or will you just cease to exist? will you actually go somewhere, or will you just float in light/darkness forever? will there actually be others with you? do you go out of existance? do you start over with your life? where do we go when we die? do we actually go anywhere?

i could go on, but you get the general idea. so death doesnt really scare me. its whats after that gets me nervous sometimes. i try not to think about it too much though. i have better things to do :P

Pretty much this. I'm an atheist and I don't believe in any afterlife; still, it's hard for me to wrap my head around the fact that once I die I'm gone forever (even though that is what I believe will happen).

I just try not to think about it too much.

I try my best to have no fear of death. Why fear the unknown? All you can really do is live life to the best of your ability, and to the fullest you possibly can. Perhaps it's a good thing you've begun thinking about your own morality, most people don't. Most people cruise through life with the notion that they'll live forever; and ultimately live a pretty boring life because of that.

Not scared of death, but I am scared of how I die. Tortue is my number one fear. (After spiders) I'm also afraid sometimes that maybe i'm wrong and there is a hell, and wonder what it would be like....

Well, I guess such worries could be quelled by what your beliefs are, i.e, whether your religious or atheist. I guess atheists generally don't give a f*** about where they'll be going when they die since, well, they don't believe they're going anywhere but the grave. And with religious people, it all depends on how you live your life that determines where you end up.

Not really, but more of what's going to happen after death. Hopefully nothing too terrible, and I sincerely hope christians are wrong, because I most certainly do not want to be partying with the devil for the rest of eternity, despite how cool the concept seems.

No I don't fear death we all gotta die some day right? Also Syrio's quote: There is only one god. And his name is death. And there is only one thing we say to death. "Not today".

well like i said, i try not to think about it too much. but i do agree with what some people have posted. just live your life happy. live with no regrets you know? obviously dont go nuts and do something you KNOW is wrong, but life is just too short to go around dwelling on past mistakes, always saying what if, and regretting everything. just live your life and be happy. if there really is some higher being that will judge us, then we shall be judged by what we have done. and if there really is a heaven and hell, i see no reason why we wouldnt be put in heaven for just being ourselves and living life happy.

for the atheists, well then im pretty sure we will end up in some pleasant place for not making any trouble :P

Yeah, the realization that I could die tomorrow in a car wreck completely out of my control hits me about every day or two. Neither does the fact that statistically speaking there's a 50% chance I'll get cancer at some point in my life (same goes for other men here; ladies get off with "only" a 30% chance). And then assuming I don't somehow die prematurely, there's at least a 30% chance of developing Alzheimer's by age 80 (again, that's the average), and that's not even including all the other forms of dementia.

I think it's pretty scary to think about, but again, what happens after you pass? I believe in God so if I go to heaven, great! If what I believe is wrong, I'd at least want to roam the universe and galaxies as some sort of spirit/being and see what's out there.

No, I don't have a fear of death. Jesus Christ died on the cross for my sins, and I've repented of my sins and received Jesus as my Lord and Savior. I'll spend eternity in heaven worshiping Him, so I don't have a fear of death.

The only reason anyone should have to fear death is if they reject Jesus. He is the only Way to heaven.

I live my life the best I can now, don't see a thing I'd want to change. But dammit it just gets to me hearing about people dying in the news or wherever, especially when it's some unpredictable, gruesome, f***ed up manner.

It is natural for us to fear what we dont understand. I just hope I dont go to hell. Being tortured for eternity...
