So, throughout the year we have been hyped up for alot of movies that came out. Some were good, some were bad, and a few truly blew us away. If you could rank all the films (starting from bitter disappointment to an incredible viewing) that you have seen, where would they stand?

Also, bonus question: What films of 2013 are you looking forward to watch?

It was a pretty damn good year for films. Skyfall, The Avengers, The Amazing Spider-Man The Dark Knight Rises, Dredd, Looper, Argo, Total Recall, Django Unchained, Reacher, etc. All were pretty good, most were great, admittedly Total Recall and Reacher were just "ok" though but I liked them. Skyfall is easily one of the greatest Bond movies ever made though, while TDKR and The Avengers are likewise some of the best superhero flicks ever.

As of right now (still need to see Les Miserables, Django Unchained, Zero Dark Thirty, and a few others), here's where I stand:

Top 5 Best:

1. Dredd
2. Cloud Atlas
3. Lincoln
4. The Avengers
5. Seven Psychopaths

And I'd probably give some honorable mentions to The Amazing Spider-Man, Magic Mike, and The Raid.

Top 5 Worst:

1. John Carter
2. Silent Hill: Revelation
3. The Dark Knight Rises
4. Ted
5. Underworld: Awakening

Good question here's a few of the one's I didn't care much for

The Apparition: I thought this would be really good but I didn't like it very much, lacked any good scary moments and the characters felt hollow, I found no reason to care for them at all.

Abe Lincoln, Vampire Hunter: I'd rank this one in between good and bad, I'm still reading the book but I felt like the whole movie rushed into things kind of quick

Sinister: It was alright, I was expecting more scares but alright

American Reunion: Blah

Movies I liked
The Amazing Spider Man: I liked this one far more better then the Rami trilogy
The Dark Knight Rises: Really good, I liked Bane's character and the way it ended
The Avengers: AMAZING!!!!!!

Movies that I remember that I thought were great:

Dark Knight Rises, The Avengers, Lincoln, The Hobbit, Bernie, Wreck it Ralph, The Amazing Spiderman, and Skyfall.

Obviously there are more movies that I need to see like Jack Reacher and Zero Dark Thirty. I also want to see The Day. I could use another post-apocalyptic film.

I haven't seen any yet:lol:

I'm going to go theater hunting this week, going to see about 5 films. The hobbit, cloud atlast, lincoln, life of pi and something else.

I've been watching too many classic films this years, to pay attention to the new ones.

Top five I've seen are probably:

The Master
Skyfall
Seven Psychopaths
Lawless
Argo

Biggest Disappointments of the year:

The Dark Knight Rises
The Amazing Spider-man
Brave
Dredd (Seen too much hype for this movie online. That said, I'm not familiar with the source material.)

That one could go two ways. It could resemble the trailer and be fantastic, or another crappy film made by a really crappy director. It's going to be a nice popcorn flick, but I'm more interested to see what comes after the summer.

This year was fantastic because of so many amazing flicks. Argo, life of pi, django, zero dark thirty, the avengers, looper, Amour... This year was one of the best I've seen in awhile.

Biggest disappointment: Killing them Softly

I guess that's how it would go. Lousy year.

BotSW I didn't care for too much, but a lot of people seem to be really liking it, so it's probably worth checking out. Killer Joe was great, though.

2012 was pretty tremendous, it's gonna take a lot for 2013 to even come close to topping it. That said, totally on board with Man of Steel. Snyder and Nolan at the helm make it the first time I've EVER anticipated a Superman film!

This was a good year for movies. Many memorable ones came out like The Avengers and Wreck-It Ralph.

I'm looking foward to all the comic book ones next year like Thor 2, Kick-Ass 2, Man of Steel, etc.

Good:

Oslo, August 31st

Dredd

Amour

Moonrise Kingdom

The Master

Beasts of the Southern Wild

ParaNorman

Compliance

Cabin in the Woods

The Avengers

Lawless

Ruby Sparks

Killer Joe

Seven Psychopaths

Alright:

Dark Knight Rises

Prometheus

Looper

Wreck-It Ralph

Skyfall

The Hobbit

Spiderman

Awful:

Cloud Atlas

The Hunger Games

Killing Them Softly

Savages

Cosmopolis

Overall I would call this year decent, nothing stood out as incredible, but there were solid releases all year long. Still lots more I want to see though.

Haywire was good. Pretty much everything else I saw was disappointing.

Dark Knight Rises could have been great but the last half hour or so it went to **** just like Dark Knight.

Other than nailing the casting of the main Avengers and their dialogue everything else about that movie was garbage.

While Looper and Skyfall were decent, I dont understand the praise either of them received. Especially Skyfall. It was much better than Quantum of Solace but it wasnt anythong special.

Prometheus was a tire fire coated in poo.

Savages also sucked and did a total disservice to the book. The three lead protanganists were all crap, Blake Lively, Taylor Kitsch...who is approaching Shia lebeouf movie killing ability.

The Hunger Games...I dont even. I know I am not part of the targeted demographic for this but good christ

Total Recall...lol.

I thought it was fine. Nothing mind blowing but there were some greats. Of what I've seen, I loved The Master, Lawless, Skyfall, Moonrise Kingdom, Cabin in the Woods, Paranorman, and The Inkeepers. Still tons I need to see, too.

Prometheus was and remains one of the most disappointing film experiences I've endured, and I was not even particularly hyped for it. If I watched The Dark Knight Rises again I think I would be underwhelmed. Kill List (made it to NZ in 2012) and Cabin in the Woods were two of the best movies I've seen in a long time. I enjoyed Snow White and the Huntsman more than I enjoyed Looper, although I was pretty inebriated for the first. The Avengers and Expendables 2 were the most fun I had this year with my clothes on.

Of the films I've seen that were released this year, here are my top 5:

1. The Dark Knight Rises

2. Moonrise Kingdom

3. Looper

4. Skyfall

5. 21 Jump Street

The worst I've seen has to be Underworld: Awakening.

The 2013 Films I'm looking forward to are:

Only God Forgives

Gangster Squad

The Place Beyond the Pines

(Ignore the fact that Ryan Gosling stars in those movies. I do not have a crush on him)

Alright seen tons of movies this past year thanks to going to the theater being one of my GF and I's biggest hobbies. Been a hell of a year for movies!

Great:

The Dark Knight Rises (amazing ending to an amazing trilogy)

The Avengers (Only super hero movie I feel beats this one is The Dark Knight Rises. Freaking phenominal movie experience)

The Cabin in the Woods (Best horror movie experience to come around in such a long time. Great dissection of the genre)

Wreck It Ralph (Was blown away by this one. Best animated movie to come around in years! Made my GF cry twice during it!)

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Good:

Sinister (A very good and very twisted horror film. I really love how dark the story in this movie is and for once a horror movie has great acting!)

The Amazing Spiderman (Best Spiderman movie next to 2, but also a tad forgettable)

Brave (Really love the characters and the lesson contained in the story)

The Hunger Games (Even in face of some bad shaky cam, this is a real cool movie. Can't wait to see the next 2 movies!)

Argo (Very cool movie about an interesting real-life event. Felt very authentic too)

Ted (Was surprised to find I thought this movie was quite funny. Had no interest untill friends kept recommending it and I ended up enjoying it)

The Secret World of Arriety (Ghibli does it once again. Gotta love the way they suck you into these awesome anime stories)

21 Jump Street (Was not interested but watched after hearing nothing but good things. Movie is freaking HILARIOUS!)

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

OK:

The Woman in Black (Had some great moments, but this movie felt bogged down by WAY too much time being spent on build-up)

Prometheus (Interesting concept that brings up interesting questions, but still fell a bit flat)

Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter (A very silly movie that I find is enjoyable if you don't take it too seriously)

Chronicle (Cool special effects, but story is pretty forgettable)

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Awful:

Chernobyl Diaries (Biggest waste of such a fantastic setting. Seriously, I feel like I deserve a refund for seeing this turd...)

The Devil Inside (Some awesome possesion scenes with great acting get completely ruined by everything else about the movie being terrible)

Paranormal Activity 4 (After being VERY impressed by 3, this one ended up being just as bad as 2. Think I will only watch the odd numbered ones from now on...)

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Still need to see:

The Hobbit

Skyfall

V/H/S

Dredd

Zero Dark Thirty

Looper

Lincoln

Watched Killing Them Softly and Django Unchained today.

Killing Them Softly was a forgettable mob movie, nothing special or noteworthy about it.

Django Unchained was quite good, another winner from Tarantino. Heard from many who thought it was too long, and its defiitely one of those movies that seems like its going to end at one point only to continue for another 20 minutes or half hour or so. Despite that, the only scene I think they should have cut was the one where Don Johnson and Jonah Hill were arguing about the bags. Stupid.

i was slightly disappointed with The Dark Knight Rises, Bourne Legacy, and Amazing Spider-man in that they didnt have the same captiveness that their previous installments had, but that does not mean they were not great movies. i actually loved all of these movies.

I liked Renner as the new Bourne character I just thought that nothing happened in that movie. I would have had his character spend the majority of the time in the wilderness being hunted by the government, like Rambo, and then end the movie when he saves that doctor in her house. And have the sequel go from there.

I wrote a blog about this today:

  • Avengers - A
  • Men In Black 3 - B-
  • Brave - C+
  • Ted - B-
  • Amazing Spider-Man - C-
  • Dark Knight Rises - A
  • Total Recall - C-
  • The Campaign - B-
  • Argo - B
  • Cloud Atlas - A-
  • Wreck it Ralph - A
  • Lincoln - A+
  • The Hobbit - B+
  • Les Miserables - A+

Les Miserables, Lincoln, Wreck it Ralph, Cloud Atlas, Dark Knight Rises, and Avengers were my favorite movies this year. just based on my viewing experience, and the emotions i went through.

Les Miz got me to actually roll tears, so it's in that special category of films to have ever struck with such emotional impact.

Dark Knight Rises for being a thrill ride, and i absolutely loved Bane as the villain, many of his scenes and lines still give me goosebumps.

Avengers and Wreck it Ralph for being just plain fun movies to watch.

Lincoln and Cloud Atlas really great just from a bit more intellectual and emotionally mature point of view. I mean Lincoln had me wrapped up anxiously watching the votes for the 13th amendment passes - i'm a history buff of course i know it does - but the film did a great enough job for me to forget about that and get in the moment. Cloud Atlas i just love the idea of inter-twining stories and how one action in the past affects the other in the future, in some subtle or overt ways. Both these and Les Miz really tugged my heart strings at times.

I still need to see Skyfall (and the last two Daniel Craig Bond films), Django Unchained (though i'm in the minority, not a huge fan of like fantasy-revenge stories - nonetheless wanna see it), Also need to catch Looper even though i had the end spoiled for me. Smaller films i wanna catch from 2012 are like The Master, and The Comedy.

As for 2013:

  1. Pacific Rim
  2. Iron Man 3
  3. Thor : The Dark World
  4. Great Gatsby
  5. Star Trek : Into Darkness
  6. Man of Steel
  7. World War Z (and i don't even like zombies but it's got me interested)
  8. Elysium
  9. Ender's Game
  10. Frozen
  11. RIPD
but these are just the big movies i know that are coming, i don't know what surprises are in store, like Cloud Atlas and Les Miserable was for me this year. Just something that will peak my interest that isn't something simply pulling on my love geeky super hero / sci-fi stuff.

I thought is was a pretty down year overall. Dark Knight Rises was easily the best of the year, in my opinion...
