Lucky for me and my parents: we all moved on to Windows 7 and Windows 8. :)
Life goes on,even for technologies, this OS has shaped and introduced me to computer usage, looks like we have to play the last of the 3D Pinballs, minesweepers, and those card games, farewell old friend.
We got 7 now.... no use for XP anymore. That OS was great for it's time and I agree with Master that it was GOAT but I'm actually very satisfied with Windows 7.
I wonder if this means they will start scrapping it from A+ certifications and etc.
Yeah, Windows 7 is a worthy successor, all my computers run it and will run it until Windows 9 comes along or something more suitable appears.
@Smashbrossive50: I copied the pinball folder from XP to later Windows versions. Runs fine on Win Vista, Win 7 and Win 8.1.
I haven't used XP since 2008. It was good for the early 2000's but it's definitely not up to par with modern day operating systems. I won't miss it.
I have Win 8.1, Win7, Win Vista, and Win XP running on separate desktop PCs and laptops in my den. I figured I'd hold on to XP for a little bit longer.
I'm tinkering with adding two more (older) PCs and run Windows 2000 and Windows 98SE just for the heck of it. But then again, I'm all out of available wall outlets.

There's a Pinball Star app which is a remake of that pinball game.
About time they let that OS die! I say good riddance to it. People need to get with the times and upgrade their stuff.
the OS is a very honorable one,its been here for 12-13 years. I can't see a reason why this os must retire,slow...yes,but it's legacy will live on
Man, Windows is so bad. Windows 7 is okay, but even still it has some issues. I haven't used Windows 8 but Metro looks pretty useless for a laptop interface.
I prefer using Ubuntu for most of what I do - browsing, listening to music, etc., but for word processing I have no choice but to use Windows. I won't buy Apple because it's too expensive despite the hardware being great, the OS is garbage.

Every OS has issues, there is nothing perfect out there.

Google Drive. Hell, if you're really addicted to Word then I think Outlook has an online equivalent to Drive, dunno if it's free though. I'd probably never use Windows if I could connect to my university's internet with Ubuntu. I might use it for games if my computer could run any, but even then Steam's starting to up the Linux support.

Why wouldn't you be able to connect to your university's internet with Ubuntu? It uses the same connectivity protocols as Windows and OSX.

That's true, I could use OneDrive, but from what I remember last it was still missing some formatting tools that I used often. I was lucky that when I was in Uni I was able to connect to the internet with Ubuntu. In fact, they even had instructions on their site about how to connect to their WIFI with Windows XP-7, OS X, Ubuntu, iOS, Android, Windows Phone.
I really hope Windows 9 is Good! for once.
although I am using Windows 7, and I think it's my most fave. however we only have until 2020 till the Windows 7 support ends. but although I'm a windows user. I really don't like most of Microsoft's Products! so I use stuff like Openshot and Gimp! instead of movie maker and Paint!

You need to use their authentication system to use the internet. I think there is a way to connect wirelessly, but I use a LAN connection with my PC.

We have to install some sort of security applet ((in addition to user login) for Windows and Macs on ours plus registration of up to three devices. Linux devices doesn't require the security applet. But, they still need to be registered. I have my Windows 8.1 laptop, Windows 7 netbook, and Android tablet registered and able to access the campus community network.
Plus, there's a separate guest network for Internet access only. Having a Linux OS shouldn't be a problem, at least here.
