My Comp II professor showed us this video in class the other day. It's pretty eye-opening (the last minute is almost scary :P).

What do you guys think? Is technology evolving too quickly?

I don't think that new technology is a bad thing. Plus the speed it is discovered at was always likely to increase.

That was interesting. I'm not afraid of the speed at which it is evolving. I think it's a good thing.

I've seen an earlier version of that video without some of the stuff in the middle. Definitely interesting. Personally I don't think technology can evolve "too quickly" or "too slowly". The important thing is what we do with it. Personally I can't wait for the world to be completely connected Ghost in the Shell-style, even if that means several new kinds of crimes also become possible. The power it will give to the individual is just immense.

Some of the points made in the video are irrelevant such as the English Language having less words than in Shakespeare's time, the reason we have less words is simply because the objects or things that they referred to are obsolete and no longer necessary and have been naturally shedded from the language by english speakers. As for the comparing of population growth, percentage IQ between the U.S and China/India all I can say is none of it is sustainable and it won't last so it's making a lot more of the figures than there is fact.

As for your question I'd have to say that technology will advance at it's own rate and we should do all we can to keep up or improve the rate of evolution as you put it. Some say that the divide between rich and poor will always be present and they may be right but it's a relative balance, as technolgy advances so does our standard of living. Compare what life was like for the average Englishman in 1900 and what it's like now and you'll find comparatively speaking we live like kings now. It's not all doom & gloom you know!

2049: A $1,000 computer will exceed the capacity of the entire human race? If true, ***** does happen (I assume that last part was a play off of a swear word, so I'm censoring the entire word even though it's not a swear word.)

Technology is growing at a rapid rate, but at the same time it's a very good thing, and a bad thing as well. We must not abuse technology, imagine the world full of robots with A.I, I mean I have heard of it before them turning on us, most of it is fictional, but you never know someday.

But I think it's important as well, because someday we might be able to conolize world's, because the Earth isn't going to be around forever when the Sun gives out 8)
