after hearing so much praise about the godfather and people saying its one of the best movies ever i went and watched it for the first time. i think the godfather might be the most overrated movie ever. im not saying it was a bad movie it just was not what i had expected it to be. people told me it was the best movie they have ever seen or thats its one of the greatest movies ever made but i seriously do not see how they could have came to that conclusion. it takes like 20 minutes to just get into the movie. the first 30 minutes were just boring. there were only like 4-5 action scenes throughout the whole movie. not only that there were a huge number of things that did not make sense. how could a guy not wake up when the dead body of a horse is put in your bed? i never really got why the son went to italy. i mean i know he had to go somewhere because he killed those guys but why out of the country? the scenes where there in italy and there doing the weird family date thing was pretty boring. why did the one guy put a bomb on the car that killed the italian wife in the first place? how come it took like 1000 shots to kill the eldest son in the ambush scene. better yet how did they know he was gonna be there? why is there like a 1 year time gap from the time after vito has that meeting with all the mafia leaders and when the son goes and talks to kate? then why does she keep refusing the son but when the car shows up she gets inside? and why is there a 4 year gap between that scene and when the son goes to talk to vito then vito dies playing with this grandson? why does the husband of the sister get killed in the end?

I also thought it was pretty boring after my dad hyped them up so much. I grew to like them though. I still fall asleep on them occasionally.

Eh, I though The Godfather Part II was a letdown.

I actually loved the first one.

how could a guy not wake up when the dead body of a horse is put in your bed?
khornedeadra

Deep sleep?

i never really got why the son went to italy. i mean i know he had to go somewhere because he killed those guys but why out of the country?
khornedeadra

He was too hot to stay in the country. He had to wait until the whole situation cooled down, otherwise he might've been dead.

the scenes where there in italy and there doing the weird family date thing was pretty boring. why did the one guy put a bomb on the car that killed the italian wife in the first place?
khornedeadra

Because Michael was supposed to be in that car and die... people were trying to kill him. That's the whole point of him hiding out in Italy. He lucked out and was not, but his wife was.

how come it took like 1000 shots to kill the eldest son in the ambush scene. better yet how did they know he was gonna be there?

khornedeadra

It didn't take 1000 shots. They did it to send a message. They messed up Santino big time.

why does the husband of the sister get killed in the end?

khornedeadra

Because the husband had been beating her...

The Godfather is an excellent film, although Part II is my favourite. I think you weren't really paying attention because most of your questions are answered directly in the film.

All of those are explained in the film, I think you ought to watch it again. I missed some of the plot when I watched it for the first time too.

I liked it a lot it was a very entertaining Mafia film that went deep into the emotions of its characters with some amazing performances, I wouldn't call the greatest film of all-time I wouldn't even call Francis Ford Coppola's best work....

the husband of the sister gets killed because he would beat the sister. the guy put the bomb because people were tracking michael down after killing the cops. the ambush scene was exagerated, a couple shots wouldve killed him, they turned him into swish cheese to send a message. they knew he would be there because they probly heard that the sisters husband beat her, knew sunny was easily angered, and waited for him to go to her help. you need to pay more attention, because these things are pretty obvious, maybee your just used to horrible mindless action movies like 300. godfather is not supposed to be an action movie, its a drama showing what mob life is really sopposed to be like, not some exagerated BS. learn to appreciate good movies, watch chinatown, no action at all but amazing movie.

Make and effort to get better at writing. If you are making a critique... your points should be clear, not a wall of text. Your ideas are dismissed because you can not present them well. This thread has failed.

all of those questions were explained in the movie. its not a 3 act film, so there was a lot that happened but thats not to say it was displayed in a confusing manner. id say that the godfather part 1 was pretty straight forward. it goes over the inner workings of the mafia and its construction as a fmaily unit (which was new at the time). i cant say the "action" disappointed either. the buildups were tense and felt real. when they finally peaked, there were flourishes of striking cinematography (something not really present in part 2). and thats not to mention the iconic performance by brando and score.

It sounds like you didn't pay attention to the film. Everything you asked about is explained at some point.

And if you didn't like the Godfather, I really have to question your taste in film.
