I went and watched this movie Friday night. Ever since I seen the previews during 300 I knew I must see this movie.. And it was totally awesome.. I dragged my girlfriend there not telling her that it was over three hours long and she even liked "Deathproof". It only earned just under 12 million for it opening week so I was wondering how the hell "Are we Done Yet?" could gross more than this awesome movie..

I still haven't seen this movie yet because my wife has been sick. I will see it before Tues.  I gotta say that "Are We Done yet" outgrossing this movie is a sad comment on American audiences.

she pretty much knows what to expect. She had her eyes covered during certain scenes in Kill Bill, but she loved the movie.

I loved Plane Terror, but didn't really like Death Proof.  Seems to me that Rodriguez has eclipsed Tarrentino lately.

I would agree, but Tarantino's film was paced really well and developed his characters to hell...

I remember having better feelings for PT at first, but then I thought to myself that
When El Wray died in PT, I could say that it was really abrupt and I barely cared for him, even though he was a cool guy

but when Stuntman Mike had poor little Pam in his car, I felt really bad during that torture scene, and I was scared for Zoe's life at the(amazing) car chase scene.

thats where Tarantino makes the better movie, I loved the hell out of both of them though

I feel bad for the people that walked out... they missed the best action sequence/ending in quite some time that could be Grindhouse's biggest problem, Rodriguez's PT and all the trailers were so action packed, that noone accepted Tarantino's buildup, I think that the slow buildup was on purpose, so your blood will boil down and then BAM!!! it's back up there again

Have you ever seen a movie called The Wages of Fear? I'm sure the vast majority of everyday movie goers would walk out on that film within the first hour. Only to miss one of the most gut-wrenchingly suspenseful thrillers of all time.

Because Tarantino underestimated how fickle people are. He made a truly awesome film, as he always does, but you only find out it's awesome from going to the theatre to watch. Unlike other films, like 300 for example, where you think "THIS WILL KICK ASS", Grindhouse looks incredibly stupid from the average bystander's point of view. "two movies? wah? 70s genres? whurt? gun for a leg? eh?" It just looks dumb. Sadly, the only people who can appreciate it are those who KNOW what it's supposed to be and actually go see it to find out how much ass it kicks (a lot). 90% of people will simply avoid it because they think it looks stupid.

pretty much nailed it on the head there I told my friends this morning that they NEEDED to see Grindhouse and one of them replied, "It's actually good!??" my heart sank, and I gave them a dumbfounded look... it's sad, but true that most of the audience just doesn't get it

heh, sigh, ok, here is, what I believe, is the biggest grossing out part of PT
a certain group of humans take off a mask that lets them inhale some kind of chemicle that makes them be able to stay alive... with that said... there is one scene where a soldier tries to rape the one-legged girl(who doesn't have the machine gun yet) first of all, the girl is just using a wooden stick to balence out her legs, she cracks the stick across the back of the soldier, and sticks the sharpen piece thats still attatched to her through his eye... somehow he lives and his machine that lets him inhale the chemicle blew up, so he was like "to hell with it" and pulled down his pants(can't see anything yet) and while he was walking torwards her, his, erm, parts were melting, and you could see them.
I would agree, but Tarantino's film was paced really well and developed his characters to hell...

I remember having better feelings for PT at first, but then I thought to myself that

*******SPOILER WARNINGS*******************

When El Wray died in PT, I could say that it was really abrupt and I barely cared for him, even though he was a cool guy

I see where you're coming from.  But I disagree with you on the pacing.  It started out fine, but the second act felt like a rehash of the first, only more boring.  The dialogue didn't grab my interest like other Tarrantino movies usually do.  It just sort of dragged on unnecessarily.  I was hoping to see Stuntman Mike do his thing more (and a higher body count ;)).

Maybe if they showed Death Proof first i would have had more patience for the slow pacing.  Instead they put it after a better executed and more exciting film.  Plus considering how long I was sitting in the theater, I wasn't interested in sitting and listening to idle chit chat so late in the game.  I found myself bored through 80 % of that movie.

But Planet Terror itself was worth the price of admission, so I can't complain too much.  I hope that they make more Grindhouse double features.

Finally saw this movie and I have to say it was pretty awesome.  Tarantino's was definitely the better of the two, though.
