And the first two movies already made roughly 2 billion dollars, and the third will probably make the total over 3 billion. So a decent investment overall. In general I can't fathom the production costs of movies anymore.

When you expect to take in over $3 billion on theater tickets alone for the trilogy, $745 million isn't that much. They've almost quadrupled their money and that doesn't include merchandise and DVD sales.

Dont forget that India's mission to mars project cost a fraction of a single Hobbit movie or a fraction of Gravity's budget.Seriously Hollywood needs to cut down the budget of their big movies and start doing some social service.

**** that. If I spend $1500 on a gaming PC, that money could have had a lot of real-world value to some poor family. That'd be a nice contribution to some poor kid's college fund, and could potentially buy the family a used car so that they don't have to spend 3 hours on the bus every day.

But do you know what? It's my money and I'd rather spend it on a sweet gaming PC. And unlike Hollywood movies, that's just a hobby. These movies are how people make their living. These are their JOBS, this is how they put bread on the table.

That 48 frames per second HFR gimmick was an eyesore.

I actually really enjoyed the first two movies I just thought the pacing was a little of it parts and they ended at awkward moments, besides that I liked them. Looking forward to seeing the third.

yeah they made their money, but that has to be the most expensive trilogy ever. I don't think Star Wars or anything similar comes close

You could say that about everything. How about US spending billions of dollars on new fighter jets. Could say the same about most things in life.

I still like the movies personally

That's sad, the book was so damn much better than either of the two movies I watched. How can that much money equal a shitty set of movies?

No. The estimated costs of a film that's released to the public usually doesn't include promotions, merchandising, movie tie-ins, etc. That's an entirely separate budget altogether, and depending on the movie, the costs for that alone can start around AT LEAST $100 million, and that's per film.

CGI man. You want the best so you hire the best. And it takes a lot of man hours to do that stuff.

Any way you cut it, the movie will have doubled the investment when it's all said and done.

GTA V was over 300m. Making it the most expensive entertainment project ever on a single project
