Everybody is making a fuss about iOS6 and the iPhone 5, but nobody is talking about the new touch

Does anybody have the new iPod Touch? It actually looks like its worth a purchase. I just like the colors and the fact that it is an iPhone 4S without the phone

It's basically what you just said in different colors.

Mine will be shipping shortly.
I'm excited for the screen, it's same one as the iphone 5 - great resolution, color saturation, black levels as well as a bit more real-estate
THe speed will be a welcome change, as well; the 4th gen felt a bit sluggish.

I prefer non-smart phones, and Nintendo for portable gaming but the itouch has always been the ultimate technical swiss army knife. I still use my 4th generation all the time.

Also:

It's just a beautiful piece of tech. I'm getting the "yellow" (which I see to percieve as green).

$300 for the 32 gigabyte.

... so bit spendy. You could get a nice tablet / e-reader for cheaper... and there are certainly cheaper mp3 players, or cameras.

But, imo, the itouch is the perfect perfect all around piece of tech, and the 5th generation seems to be near state-of-the-art.

Screen size of the nexus 7 plus the lower price, and faster processing beats the ipod touch. Honestly spending $300 on what is essentially a tiny tablet is really stupid. The screen of the ipod touch isn't big enough to fully enjoy games, movies, or pictures. You are basically wasting money on something that looks cool but lacks proper function.

I'll be honest I'm still surprised they are still selling the iPod. I don't own one anymore because my iPhone is basically an iPod.

I have mixed feelings about the new IPod touch. While I do realize the nexus 7 is far better then the IPod touch the screen size is still too big on the 7 just because when I think IPod I think mp3 player and if I want to listen to music in the gym for example I sure as hell am not going to bring my tablet. That being said I dont really see the point in having IPod touches anymore. I mean every single smart phone does exactly what an IPod touch and more at this point and for half the cost. Plus an IPhone 5 for example is $200 on contract if you are getting a new phone while the IPod touch is $300? It just seems like a huge rip off to me. I personally say stick to an Iphone or any other type of smartphone out on the market today.

I saw a 16 gig advertised in the local walmart flyer for $198, which is the same price I got my 4th gen 8 gig for. Hopefully the prices stay down like that, that'd be awesome.

Or you can get a small mp3 player for a fraction of the price that is able to hold tons of music.. Or you know you can just use pandora.. Seriously this should not be the main reason why you would want to get one of these, inless you just like burning money.

Yeah, for music, just get a little sansa with a micro SD card slot (you're looking at almost 50 gigs for $60-$70 if you do it right), and then buy a tablet for movies and apps and stuff.

I agree, the only iPod worth getting now for listening exclusively to music is the classic, as it is one of the only few players that offer 160gb of storage. I didn't need that much space so a sansa clip+ 8gb and a 32gb SD card was perfect for me.

havent used 5th gen yet, but it does seem to be a very nice step up from the the 4th gen (which I still love and use daily). I like that they finally dropped the mirrored back, and the camera is actually worthwhile at 5mp. The bigger screen I could take or leave, but I'm sure it's quite pretty to look at. I do wish they would up the music quality, but between games, music, camera, and all the stuff the internet allows you to do I would say it's one hell of a purchase if you don't have a smartphone.

People have massive CD collection they'd like to listen to in FLAC(I prefer only 320kb/s or 256 is fine too.) Does anyone actually legally buy music unless they collect CDs like myself?

Yeah its a nice step up from no iPod Touch, and from a 3GS (that I was given) (might just switch to an android soon, if I manage to get the touch)

Yeah true, the ipod's music quality is a bit bad but to be honest, the other features that it has more than makes up for it. I was tempted with the 4th Gen but the crappy camera, and the occasional performance hiccup turned me off from it.

I don't need a Ipod touch but it is cool for those who need one.
