The Last Airbender 2

source: www.mtv.com

If a $53.3 million holiday weekend proves successful enough to keep M. Night Shyamalan around for a "Last Airbender" sequel, he knows what he wants to do — and he wants to do it darkly. Asked about his intentions going forward, the "Sixth Sense" and "Signs" director confirmed that he has much of "The Last Airbender 2" already mapped out.

"I do," Shyamalan told MTV News. "The third is more ambiguous, but the second one, I've written a draft that I'm really happy with and is darker and richer, and it has a wonderful antagonist in it in Azula, who's kind of like our only real, pure antagonist in the series, so I'm excited about that."

His description of the story implies that Summer Bishil's character from the film currently in theaters has plenty left to do onscreen as Aang (Noah Ringer) continues his fight against the Fire Nation.

As far as what the story will be about and which characters could enter or exit the cast, those decisions may have to wait for Paramount's decision on the franchise's fate. If things proceed, Shyamalan has already shared a few details that could play into his intentions. The elite female Kyoshi Warriors, for instance, will likely play a larger role.

"I probably won't show the Kyoshi Warriors because I want to save them for the second movie, because I'm going to have to introduce them all over again," he said while explaining what would and would not show up in the "Last Airbender" DVD and Blu-ray's deleted scenes.

The characters were initially included in the first film, but circumstances and editing decisions eventually moved them out of the spotlight.

"We shot [the scene] and [the Kyoshi Warriors] were amazing, and we spent an unbelievable amount of time choreographing them," he said. "And they just distracted from the movie, because the movie wasn't about them."

Given that he became much more comfortable with filming in 3-D during his first "Airbender," another round of 3-D filming with the same crew would make sense unless Hollywood's affection for the evolving medium changes overnight.

In the meantime, Shyamalan sounds like he's ready to go if and when an "Airbender" sequel gets the go-ahead.

Lol. And who's really going to watch the sequel after such a horrible first show? I have honestly not heard one positive thing about this movie.

Having a sequel out so soon is not surprising if you consider the amount of effort that went into the first. Truth be told, I'm surprised there aren't five out already.

this isn't going to get green lighted, this is like golden compass which also was meant to be a triology but due to poor reviews and it didn't make its money back the whole planned triology has been scrapped. I can definetly see this happening with avatar, no one (except people who like bad movies with bad acting) would go see the second one, the only reason this movie even made this much was because the last airbender is a popular series, but since almost all the fans hate this movie why would they pay their money "and i find it funny that he said working with 3d was interesting", when 95 percent of the movie wasn't in 3d but post converted into 3d which is always terrible "clash of the titans", so M.night i'm sure you have the second was written, but your writing is horrendous, who ever casted these characters need to be fired, i mean this movie had a budget of 150 millions and also with advertisment "must have cost a fortune to get superbowl air time", and i don't think its going to make its money back and that the movie studios don't wanna take another gamble

I thought that was the plan from the beginning. One for each season , so a trilogy. I guess now the question is whether or not to abandon the plan.

Why did he take out the Kyoshi warriors? WHY?! They were probably going to be the only reason I'd watch that film! No Suki? No Sokka in a dress?!

I just saw it and imo.. Its not that terrible.. Its much better than the village and the happening in my opinion. The only things that were bad about it was poor pacing and very awkward moments of dialogue. But everything else was mediocre. The acting wasnt terrible, but it wasnt great, the music was fine, there werent any massive glaring plot wholes like in his previous movies to make you go WTF.. NO MOVIE I DONT ACCEPT THIS... It was just ok.. And I think kids who enjoyed the show would enjoy it just fine.

Sure none of what it did was great.. But BOY it could have been ALOT.. and I mean ALOT worse. I went in thinking it was going to be a 1.. but it turned out more like a 4.9 or a 5 imo.

But its box office hasn't been super good. After all of the negative reviews, the second movie can only do worse at the box office.

It was second only to Eclipse. It's made over sixty million thus far.

True. I know I'd love a fourth book. Just to, y'know, finish the series. I still want to know if the air nomads will ever come back, seeing as Aang is the very last, but if he got kids with Katara...

Maybe one day they'll do a prequel series or something. Although it wouldn't really be the same, the characters are part of what made Avatar so awesome.

They have a new series coming up called Avatar: The Legend of Korra. It's set a hundred years after the first series, but it includes flashbacks to events after the first series.

Huge box office.

Not that huge. It's made $88 mil to date, on an estimated budget of $150 million, and the only reason it made as much as it has is because it was converted to 3D in post production. Not to mention the bad word of mouth is killing this film. If they do make a second, don't expect M. Night to return.

From what I've read, she's a waterbender. Aang will be her "Roku;" that is, she'll contact his spirit and learn from him (presumably he'll be her airbending teacher).

Zuko was originally going to be Katara's love interest, but they changed it to Aang. I think it would have been better if Katara and Zuko got together; for one thing, he's closer to her age. >_>

DAMN IT! :x

Who would spend their money on that horrible movie?!

I wish M Night would drop off the face of the planet. He clearly didn't watch most of the episodes.

I bet that he doesn't show Tylee and Mai in the film.
