My friends and I have been looking forward to this movie for a while now since we were huge fans of the show (despite it being a Nickelodeon cartoon). But, we all feared that the likes of M. Night Shyamalan would ruin it, which I know a lot of other fans of the show had in mind.

Now, I know it's early since the movie still has another day before its release, and only 12 reviews have been aggregated on Rotten Tomatoes. Therefore, a 0% isn't likely to last as the film's final rating on the site. But 12 negative and 0 positive reviews definitely isn't a good sign, and the score isn't likely to change much in the next few days (same case scenario with Grown Ups, and look how far that got).

Call me crazy, fanboy, whatever you want....but that won't change my utter disappointment with the film's apparent critical reception. I was shocked and disappointed upon hearing about M. Night's rights to the film several months ago, but was actually willing to give him one last chance just for this. Setting aside the casting, the appearance, the M. Night, and pretty much everything else people seemed to have a problem with prior to this movie's release, I was seriously hyped up for this to come out--until now. I guess I'll have to wait and see if the Tomatometer for this adaptation of such an awesome cartoon gets lucky in the days to come.

Well, it has a positive review now. 6%. Woohoo. 1/18 positive. And the negative reviews weren't just negative -- some of them were the most negative reviews I've ever seen. Critics seem to be HATING this movie.

Exactly, and that's the biggest reason why I have little hope for the score to go up. And that's what disappoints me the most.

When I found out M. Night Shyamalan was doing this movie, I facepalmed. I kinda figured it would be this bad, but I hoped for a miracle...which never happened...

I was looking foward to the film being that I love the cartoon series. The trailers also looked decent. I can't really comprehend how the film can be so bad though. Just think of the premise. The movie should at least be corny and entertaining. How canM.Night make it boring? He must have like gone out of his way to make it bad it seems. Ugh. I really want to see it now though to see if it's really THAT bad. It's strangly interested.

I wouldn't call Atla an anime, since it's Western animation. But that's just me nitpicking.

That's what I had in mind. My hope in him came from Sixth Sense and Signs.....several years back. I guess this director has officially lost his skill.

From Roger Ebert:

""The Last Airbender" is an agonizing experience in every category I can think of and others still waiting to be invented. The laws of chance suggest that something should have gone right. Not here. It puts a nail in the coffin of low-rent 3D, but it will need a lot more coffins than that."

Not to be nit picky but the term anime has nothing to do with the art style and everything to do with where it originated, especially considering that each anime artist has a unique style.

It IS based off an American cartoon fans were trying to pass off as anime, after all. But I digress. I doubt the movie is seriously worthy of a 0%. Not even Twilight. And I LOATHE Twilight.
