The Martin Luther King memorial statue looks communistic and authoriarian = BAD

Anyone else not like the design of the Martin Luther King memorial? For starters, it's a very poor likeness of Martin Luther King. And the pose of the statue has an authority to it that makes it look like the communist statues of Russia or China. And who gave the finlal say to give a Chinese national (a communist) the right to sculpt a man who represented equal rights and freedom? It's ridiculous when you think about it. Bad enough that an African American wasn't seriously considered for the job, let alone ANY American. I'd rather not acknowledge that that memorial exists. It's a disgrace to this country and its citizens.

It does look rather... severe. I don't dislike it though.

What are you getting upset about TC? It's a statue. It's meant to represent a person or idea and convey the message to people. The Martin Luther King memorial statue does just that. Who cares about who built it and whether you think it's communist/authoritarian?

This just made me think of a statue that needs to be made; that guy who stood in front of a tank during the Tiananmen Square protests. Imagine a huge statue of that with both the guy and the tank.

I think it looks okay. I'm not sure it compares to the other monuments though in aesthetics or lasting impact

I think it makes it more meaningful that a black man didn't sculpt it. We are all thankful to what Martin Luther did, and we are all proud to follow in his footsteps today.

I'm by no means an MLK expert, but that's what I was thinking.

Oh wow, I would love a massive statue like that of myself...on the moon...overlooking the Earth...because I rule it.
