Friend of mine and I are having a debate. She considers "For the win" to make no sense at all and that it sounds dumb, and that FTW actually means "**** the world". Which I think is a pathetic statement, but whatever. What do you think?

It's 'for the win' in internet language. '**** the world' seems like a rather pointless acronym seeing as it's not something that's used often. FML however, meaning '**** my life' is very common, at least where I live, and is usually used as an exaggeration of when something goes wrong, eg. "printer just broke.. fml".cjekif I had a quarter for every time I said fml..... well I wouldnt have to say fml anymore.

Lemme guess, she listens to Blink 182 and is a "pank rawk grllll!"
it was **** the world long before it was for the win....comp_atkinsMaybe the association of the phrase to the acronym is new but I'm sure "for the win" is not a knew phrase. I would say "**** the world" doesn't sound like something my grandpa would say (in his day.)
