Why do the mods have jobs here?

They delete stuff that isn't all that bad, yet it takes 5 complaints to have something bad deleted.... REALLY?!

mods can delete anything. they don't need 5 reports

Double standards, blatant bias, and power trips. That is all.

Eh, I think the mods do a pretty good job here. Shut down unnecessary and redundant threads and keep the trolls at bay. I can't imagine what these boards would be like without them.

It would appear that you don't understand how moderation works here, so I'll fill you in. We aren't an omnipresent force. Most of the moderations we deal with come from a queue. When you report something, it's added to the queue, but we're dealing with hundreds of reports each day, and so sometimes it will take a little longer for us to get to a moderation, even if the item is obviously breaking the ToS. If multiple users report it, the report is accorded a higher priority in the queue. So the basic idea here is that when you see something that is a blatant ToS violation, you and anyone else who sees it should report it, and we'll deal with it.

Sometimes we stumble across something when we're posting for fun and will remove it, but mostly, moderations stem from the queue.

As for "minor" things being deleted, what you consider minor is not considered minor by Gamespot, and we are tasked to remove these things. It's really that simple.

There are a few who have well over 10k posts and have never been moderated or warned. Goes to show that maybe the mods really aren't that bad :o

Because the report has not been seen yet. Oftentimes, this is because no one reported it. Again, we aren't an omnipresent force. That's why the reporting system exists.

I like the mods here for the most part. Sometimes it really irks me when they lock really fun threads though. Remember that guy who posted his gf's facebook page?!
