Didn't see that one coming. What do you guys/gals think about this?

This is a very misleading thread title (or rather, the original article is misleading). The piece in question is a column written by Anand Giridharadas and published in the NYT. It's not an editorial by the NYT, and so it's not really the NYT coming to Palin's defense here.chessmaster1989
Being that it was published in the NYT, I think it can be considered a NYT piece.

A column does not represent the opinion of the editorial board. It's not the NYT coming to the defense of Palin, it's a writer published in the NYT coming to the defense of Palin. There are writers of fairly different political views who have been published or are columnists in the NYT, that doesn't mean their opinions reflect that of the NYT.

The thing is though, the average person is gonna look at the article and associate it with the NYT because that's where he or she is reading it in. Whether it actually is or isn't an actual NYT piece counts more I guess, but still.

I'm not exactly sure what your point is with the bolded statement...
Could care less. As long as people like her aren't elected, it's all cool.

I read an interview with Sadie Palin in September 2011's edition of Playboy. Sadie, a family member, slagged her off and confirmed that she is every bit as awful as people say. Personally, I've never had the pleasure (or misfortune) to have heard or read anything she's said.
I distinctly remember how some people thought it was real.Remember that Onion article on Palin and her abortions?

There are a lot of people who look at Sarah Palin and her ideas and dislike what she pushes. That's completely understandable, especially if you're pro-choice, disagree with her policies of what we should be doing overseas, or just plain think her ideas are nuts. But unfortunately it gets to the point that people who hate her views extend that to hating HER as a person and embrace any type of media that drags her into the dirt. The comment section of that article shows that in full swing.
After a while, even some of her political opponents end up defending her out of disgust. It's no different than when Senator McCain came to then-Senator Obama's defense when people were saying racially motivated things about him during the election. Or when other Democratic politicians came to McCain's defense when some of Obama's supporters (but not Obama himself) took it a step too far and insulted McCain's military service and his time as a POW in order to discredit him.
While I might not agree with everything Palin says I don't need to take it farther and try to make her look like a whore. If she runs I rather that she loses because she's a bad choice than for her to lose because people are saying she was a slut when she was in her 20s or whatever else is going around about her right now. I say whatever else because I'm not keeping up with it, it's not in my best interest to hunt down every piece of slander that is going on about someones personal life.
