After watching the first 5episodes I feel all but let down on the show. The characters are just so forgettable, the action isn't common enough and even feelsmediocreat times due to the fact that it usually consists of Japanese soldiers charging at machine guns. Am I the only one that feels let down on this show?

Yeah, Band of Brothers was much better imo but this is alright. I think its just cause BoB gave us such a high expectation.

Im disappointed with it. I decided to check out the ratings on tv.com for the show and I think the people over there are being a tad too hard on the show lol

I did expect it to be a bit better but it's still good to watch.

The episodes are way too short in my opinion, but it's still a great show.

The reason it doesn't feel as good as BOB is because there is no relationships between individuals as yet (I hope) and because the action was far less due to reasons I don't know.

I've been disappointed so far. The episodes are so short! They are about 40 minutes with the credits and intro. BoB varied but were usually a little over an hour long. You guys are right about forgetable characters. The ones in BoB were way more likable and you actually felt emotions for them throughout the show. I still think its an alright show but BoB was just on a whole nother level of awesome it can't campare.

So far the show is mediocre. Its still has potential but now I don't expect it to be anywhere near as good as BoB.

They spread themselves out too much. Band of Brothers had the advantage of sticking with the same group of guys through out the series.

its a good show but definitely not as great as Band of Brothers. the action isnt as spectacular in this series and where band of brothers had a solid 60 percent action 40 percent non action it seems like this is like 20 percent action 80 percent non action

I had the same expectations as you. I was comparing it with BoB the whole time but then I realized they are both too different to be compared. imo

I think most of us are watching expecting it to be the next Band of Brothers, and since The Pacific just can't compare, we are disappointed. But if this was a standalone series and not advertised as the Pacific version of BoB, then we would probably like it more. I think they could have done the series a lot better, though. BoB had an amazing introduction episode before the action began where you met all the characters and developed connections with them. You went into the second episode knowing who everyone was by name. With The Pacific (possible spoiler alerts), you are briefly introduced to a few people, most of whom I didn't change their name, and suddenly you are watching a bunch of soldiers that you never heard of getting killed. Honestly, I know the name of one character, Basilone. I could recognize another (Rodriguez?)...the one who became the runner and got shot...but he died soon after. To me, the soldiers are just young men in helmets. I can't see their personalities, backgrounds, etc., like I could with BoB. One of the best things about BoB was that you developed emotional ties to the characters.

i think the pacific is boring. too much talking, needless, talking. you don't care much about the characters as much as you could with bob's characters. hell, i thought garniere was a cool and funny guy! and winters was cool also. just couldn't feel the brotherhood in the pacific,. maybe because it isn't really about the brotherhood in the marines but more about the pacific war itself. however, i think it fails in that aspect. i think they could have re-written the whole thing.

Disappointing? Hardly. Stop making it a direct comparison to Band of Brothers.

Until yesterday's episode, The Pacific mainly focused on the psychological aspect of war - unlike Band of Brothers, which mainly focused on incredibly well done set pieces with, of course, memorable characters.

I don't see how anyone could complain for "the lack of action" after seeing last night's episode. One entire tracking shot from the boat, following one soldier, while horrific things are happening around him. That was a phenomenal scene. I also loved when Leckie looked on the ground, to spot a blown off hand with a wedding ring on. It's really, really great stuff.

The first episode was pretty ordinary. The production values are high but there's so little exposition. Surprising given how good the writing was in the first series. A lot of the dialogue was of the usual flag waving variant.

I will say it focuses more action than character development, but it's still a good show.

They went for more of a "drama" feel with The Pacific, which you may or may not like.STurn21
What does that mean?

The beginning of shows are never as good. If anyone's watched the first episode of Treme you'll likely think 'man this is nowhere near as good as the Wire', but it hasn't even started yet. We enjoy TV because of the characters. We build a relationship with them, and we are entertained by their relationships with each other. People think Band of Brothers is better because we remember the key characters and their personalities and their interactions with each other. The Pacific hasn't been going long enough for us to build up that kind of a familiarity. It's like meeting a new person in comparison to your best friend; you gotta get to know them.

Only seen two episodes, not enough time to decide, though I will say I can't remember any character's names...

When it is over, I am going to watch it very quickly On Demand. I watched Band of Brothers in 2 days and I want to do the same with this, though I know it will be different.

Yeah, I'm a world war two buff but lately I just can't bring myself to watch people getting mowed down in a bonzai charge with .30 and .50 cals....it's just such a waste of life
