Have questions about photography? Want to show off some of the awesome photos you've taken? Need some critique? Have at it. I won't pretend to know it all, but myself (and hopefully the other members :D) will help with whatever we can. Please keep any pictures tasteful and unique. What I mean by this is nothing such as self portraits of you and your gf/bf or other random snapshots. Other than that have fun and get some new ideas. To get thing started, here's some that I've posted before but are some of my favorites.

Took this photo before I got my DSLR. Just a regular Sony Cybershot point and shoot.

Amazing bokeh :)

I had the privelage of using a 2.8f 70-200mm on the photoshoot, and the rest are just standard lens.

The bird and duck ones are kind of...creepy, but photographically good.

To keep things going, what kind of software do you all use? I have CS4, Lightroom 3, and Color Efex Pro 3. I mostly just try to do some color editing in Lr, but there's always something that needs that extra help or just looks 10 times better with a certain filter.

Just started out with photography; I need a lot more practice in this department. Also did a bit of editing in photoshop because the camera I'm currently using sucks.

Here are the very first batch of shots I took:

solitude

liquor

mouse

What do you think? First is the original photo edited for color slightly. Second is after using a filter program. Kind of makes it look HDR. Too much?

To quikdash6: Personally, I don't really like the HDR look. If you need more definition in the textures of your photos, you can always mess with the levels or curves in Photoshop. To each their own though, but I think the sky is too much in that second image. And in addition, I want to grab that image and rotate it a degree or two clockwise, but that may just be the way the wall is (I can't tell).

@MrGeezer I like that picture with the guy, and the duck.

I swear I've seen another one with him holding a rooster/chicken.

I think it's the steps more than anything that's making you want to rotate it. They are/were uneven. I felt the same way about the sky too. Especially the left.

@ comp atkins, nice macro photography. I also like the landscape although it could stand to be a little sharper. The tree, not so much.

the canyon was an attempted hdr done w/o a tripod so yeah there's some fuzzyness in it. i don't ordinarily lug a tripod around. not really that serious w/ my stuff :)

Uh, I think this pic is just a bit to risque, not in the fact that she is grinding up against someone, but that it borders on child porn for one little thing that appears to be exposed, at least from that angle.

I want to get started with photography, but I am not sure where to start. I want a good camera and I will need a lens too. It is overwhelming. But these pictures look great.

If you do not want to fork out the money for a DSLR while you get your wings with photography, something like the PowerShot SX40 HS is a good advanced camera to learn with. If you want the option of using a seperate flash instead of the built in flash (reduces red eye), then the Canon PowerShot SX20IS will let you use one. These are advanced digital cameras that have features of a point and shoot camera along with features found on a DSLR. If you saw the pic I took of the lightning (posted somewhere around here), I took it with the SX20 IS.

I would suggest learning lighting and composition before you even consider getting a camera over $200. Just getting a prosumer camera or a DSLR is not going to automatically make your pictures better.

What's everyone preference (if any)? I like wildlife the most. Instead of staging a photo I just want to capture something that happened naturally.
