Tonight's episode of the Simpsons will be the first episode in the series to be broadcasted in HD and with that comes a change to the opening sequence. Link I'm not sure what I think about it, but it isn't bad.
The extended ending kind of killed it. It seems slower. But I like that they tried to incorporate all of the series regulars. Sajedene
I agree that it seemed slower, but I thought it was because I'm used to the quick intros where it skips right to the couch gag. I didn't mind the long couch gag though.
As someone who grew up with the Simpsons during the '90's... that made me feel ill. I cannot believe how far Groening has taken the series... he is just committing utter sacrilege now.

Yes, atleast the Simpsons still manages to get some laughs from me nowadays unlike some other shows *cough* Family Guy *cough*.

I'll will even say it's worse than anything else I watch on TV.

I'd put money on 90-95% of them have never seen an episode from before season 10.

Compared to the first 8-10 seasons of the show, every single episode from season 15-present is crap. It doesn't matter how it compares to what else is on television... its gone on for far too long and needs to die. It unfortunate it cannot die gracefully anymore, since its long outstayed its welcome. A show should leave with you wanting more, like Seinfeld and Futurama... not having a large portion of its fanbase begging the madness to end before it goes one step too far (and considering the one recent episode I saw with all the Islamic racism/stereotypes, it already has... I've seen some really questionable and tongue-in-cheek things in Family Guy and American Dad, which I expect from them to some extent... but that episode of Simpsons just went WAY too far).
There is plenty of great episodes during that period. I loved the 24 and "Debarted" episodes.II-FBIsniper-II
They lacked everything that made Simpsons "Simpsons."
Firstly, they had moral lessons. The entire first half of the series, especially the first 5-6 seasons, were built on subtle moral lessons built into the episode-to-episode plots. Bonestorm, Jacques the bowler, Homer and Mindy, etc.
Secondly, they relied heavily on quality, well-written and tasteful humour. Once Family Guy came out and started popularizing gritty, edgy and vulgar humour, Simpsons followed suit. They gave up on what made them special, golden writing with subtle but effective jokes that made you laugh because they were hilarious, not because they made you feel uncomfortable.
Thirdly, they used celebrity guest stars sparingly and creatively. Now entire episodes (past season 10) are written entirely around certain guest stars. Instead of there being an episode with a cameo written into it... its a cameo with an episode written into it.
Fourthly, the parodies and satires were creative and different. The Treehouse of Horror V, with the Shining parody, time-travelling toaster and kid-eating teachers... was basically the epitome of Simpsons humour, writing and satire. It was comic genius from start to finish. Now, all the "parodies" are just blatant rip-offs and plagiarizing... there is no satire anymore, no funny twists of humour... its all just cheap cash-ins on mainstream pop-culture.
The Simpsons died when Homer bent down to grab a bobby pin and the shirt fired from the air cannon sent Maude over the back of the bleachers... now it is just an atrocity to what is happening to what I used to love. Going back and watching all those earlier episodes from the first eight seasons and then watching something from season 12 onwards almost makes me cry...
It would be nice if they could just give the series a clean death now before they go too far and actually get cancelled for doing something that pisses off a lot of people.

It was pretty much the same script, how was it over-complicated. :? I guess I'm just used to the simplicity of the original, but I'll watch the new intro again to get a feel for it and know if I don't like it or not. I didn't think there was a need to add more characters and settings in it. Also, replacing Mr. Burns and Smithers for Carl and Lenny in the Homer/Power plant part? hmmmm.... Somehow I do like having Sideshow Bob added and those smaller details like the Japanese Homer dishwasher soap thing.

The worst offense of all time has to be the N'Sync episode. I tried stabbing my brain with a Q-tip to erase it that atrocity from my memory. But, I do agree with everything you have to say.
The funny part about this thread is all of the people saying the show is terrible now but then go on about various episodes they've seen because they keep watching it anyway. :lol:

Maybe there's a small chance it will be good again :cry: I actually stopped watching it a few years ago. Now if I want to watch The Simpsons I watch the older ones I have on DVD.
