Wrinkle in Time? Catch-22? James and the Giant ****ing Peach? What is wrong with people? :|

I will eat my shoes if there is someone here who has not read at least one book on this list in his lifetime.

Many of these are classics, but I can see how conservative people might be offended by some of them.

How can you challenge 1984? Wouldn't the sheer irony cause your head to explode?

I wonder why 1984 is in there but not Fahrenheit 451. They're essentially the same thing. :?

This reminded me of a banned book.. help me out here. Does anyone know the name of the book that has a man and a woman holding assault rifles on the cover? I read once that it was banned for "inciting revolution" or something. Sorry, I don't remember much about it.

The fact that Brave New World and 1984 are both on there is kind of sad in the extreme, especially since both are still warnings as to different ways we could go. (And lol @ the comment about the irony.)

This comic is especially telling: Amusing Ourselves to Death (Huxley Was Right).

Where did you go to school? Some of those are almost universally taught in school, at least in public schools.

I would argue that many conservatives that are stuck up on extreme nationalism think these two books some how are bashing their perspective as being incorrect or what not.

Or The Giver both are pretty ironic to find on a list of banned books.

lol at Angus, Thongs, and Full Frontal Snogging being on there. I read that book, nothing too out of the ordinary. Maybe because it had thongs in the title? :P I guess I could see Go Ask Alice on there, but even then that book isn't that bad. I'm surprised Flyy Girl isn't on that list.

I'm not surprised that Howard Stern's Private Parts were challenged. The same goes with The Great Gatsby. I never read the book, but the movie was pretty graphic at least. Captain Underpants should be challenged. That book was disgusting. I liked it when I was a child, but now I see it as the repulsive novel that it is. A Clockwork Orange is no surprise. I'm astonished Are You There God? It's Me Margaret, To Kill a Mockingbird, and A Wrinkle in Time was challenged. Where is On the Origin of Species or The Communist Manifesto?
