In all honesty, Macs are no better for graphic design than a PC.
For the last two years I've been using an iMac at school for design work, they were very slow to work with because their system specs are pretty low, even with new iMacs. They have a few Macbooks too, those were even worse. I ended up just doing my work at home because my PC was so much faster than the iMacs were.
I say forget about Macs, get a beefy Notebook instead.

I've heard the opposite said though. Also a guy I know who fixed computers said he got literally thousands of PCs and only 2 Macs, one of which was stepped on and the other was6 years old.
If it costs more than one grand, i won't be buying it.
i would stick with what I know, i don't have time to learn how macs work.
but i don't have any experience with which one is better.

If you get a PC with quality hardware in it and actually take good care of, it won't need to take it in to get fixed. Considering most people have PCs and know nothing about hardware or even how to take care of their PCs its not surprising he has to fix that many computers.
I know many people who have macs and they said there alot better for designing.edd678They're better for most things, as far as I'm concerned.

Easier and more enjoyable to use. Mac OS X has a much better interface and, from my experiences, is considerably faster than Windows. Also, it has better built in features than Windows, though Vista copied many of them, but not all since Leopard was recently released.Get a Mac. Especially if you're going into Digital Arts.RoyTheViking
I heard something about it not being good with animation and 3d stuff, though that person may have been wrong....
Get a PC.
A PC can run all the OSes including OS X, lookup "OS X X86 Project" for more info about that.
c_smithii
But like I said, Macs don't really need fixing much. If anything, I might get a mac with windows instead of a pc with OS X
Multimedia or games?
Because if you play your cards right you won't get much spyware or any viruses, unless you're just really, really, really unlucky.
Leopard or Vista? Vista for Games and Leopard for multimedia.
Again, it lies in you.
And how much are you willing to pay?

Niether does PCs, if you are good with computers you arelikely to not have any trouble with either OS.
actually Macs break down just as much as PCs
I would reccomend a PC if you plan to play any games at all and you're right, when you get an error with a PC you can look up how to fix it yourself, but when you get one with a Mac you have to call a repair man.
and then there's the fact that you can actually upgrade a PC, which you can't do on a Mac.
in short: PC >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Mac

Where are you getting your information that macs break down just as much? I heard from a guy who fixes computers that he only had to fix a lot ofPCs, and only two macs (one was stepped on and one was very old).

Why do you keep bringing that up? All of the computers in the world don't go through that guy, and considering that there are many more PCs out there than Macs, it's pretty safe to assume that he will see more PCs than Macs.
How about this; I know some guys that only repair Macs?
They both offer something different, and PCs are only as safe as their end-user wants them to be. I haven't seen a virus for years.
Im using a macbook, i got one because im doing a degree in newsmedia and we use macs for all the work, i dont want any imcompatability problems when i do work at home. I think Macs are easier to use, ive not had a problem with it yet. I never get viruses or mal/spyware, the only problem i really have with it is that i cant play many games.booshdy
Fine with me. There are some games though....right? I mean I like freecell and spider solitare.....

thats because the kids at your schools mistreat them.

The games for it aren't actually that bad. Compared to a PC, I suppose it's poor, but have a look for yourself. http://www.apple.com/games/Apple or Microsoft? I'll go with 'Banana', a new company that's recently sprung up out of Zimbabwe. It's climbing its way to the top, jumping in front of the competition and stealing their clientele faster than an Olympic runner on crack.nick3333
Has no one heard of this revolutionary new company? Its products are unbelievable,
How is that the ultimate question? Shouldn't the ultimate question be: "What's the meaning of life?"Shiggums
Nope, it's 'PC or Mac?'
[QUOTE="fynne"]Macs have a nice OS, but I'll never get one because they are so much more expensive than a PC. I couldn't get said eye candy to work.
