Then their would be less petrol comsumption, no emissions and a better environment.

Im saying this because recently in London they have just put a £200 charge everytime you enter London with a high emission vehicle, at the moment it's only for trucks that run on diesel, but im pretty sure it will be for high emission cars too.

So basically:

Make Hybrids cheaper, because at the moment, no one can afford one. If they lower the price they would probably make more money because a lot more people will be buying them!! Especially here in London.

Anyone agree?

But Oil companies still make money. When they start losing it hybrids will get more developed and cheaper.

I have been saying this for years, the American Government needs to subsusdize the Hybrids to the point where you can get a 4 door sub-compact or 2 door coupe for like 12,000...seriously. A full size car for like 20,000 and a smaller truck for like 30,000 or something... And then if people want, they can buy an actual car that would be fun to drive like a truck or Mustang...but the point would be that most Americans would have an everyday car that is super clean for commuters to use on a daily basis.

Hybrids aren't that expensive. They start at about $30,000.

I think the Hybrid is a great idea, but its so impracticle for some people. Does it have the power to make it through tough terrain? If you get a lot of snow, do you want that thing?

People are waiting on them, not because they don't want to help the environment, but because its just not a smart purchase right now.

The Tax break is pretty sweet though. I will say this though, the idea of the Government getting involved and almost forcing a company to lower its price scares me, and not because of a more affordable car, but for other reason.

Hybrid cars are just purchased to make people feel good about themselves. If you want to help the environment, use public transportation.

I agree with the last thing you said. These days it seems like green supporters don't want you to have fun driving. MAYBE I'll consider getting an economic car but I think I'll put the fun factor of a car first.

If they actually made more hybrid models with a more desirable look, it would have more popular. Hybrid Corvette's, Camaro's, and Chargers?

Absolutely! I mean, those hybrid-fuel cell engines can be quite expensive, since the battery has to manufactured and the parts can be expensive. The best way to make these hybrid cars less expensive would be eliminated the fuel cell, maybe convert the engine so it runs on gasoline...

Wait a minute...

How about we quit clowning around and develop Hydrogen cars which would be used for a long time to come. Instead of these semi fixes to the solution.

The mining, extraction, and refinement of the nickel metal hydroxide for the battery in a hybrid car causes more damage to the environment than a gasoline-powered car could in twenty years.

Well IMO, its not just price that stops people from buying a hybrid.

To be honest, even the Prius' soon to be 150 MPG rating wouldn't be enough to make me want one. I just think it looks horrible, it doesn't even have a 90 horsepower.

Now if they would slap a hybrid engine into a well selling SUV (I don't mean the Toyota Highlander), and make the price affordable, then I think that would be the best decision a manufacturer could make.

I understand that in 2005 or 2006, GMC released a Sierra Hybrid and Chevy released a Silverado Hybrid, but because the cheapest model of those vehicles was starting at about $30,000 CAD. And for a domestic pickup truck...what idiot would pay that?

If the public (and by public, I mean the credit-card indebted American consumer) was really concerned about the environment, they would be down at the junkyard looking to buy a vehicle, not the showroom. Nobody wants to drive anything more than 50k miles anymore, so in five years you can expect to see a lot - A LOT - of used "green" cars going really cheap. Buying a hybrid sounds good in theory, but these vehicles undergo the same highly toxic manufacturing processes as their gas-guzzling counterparts. Don't be fooled - cutting down on oil consumption and emissions even for millions of commuters isn't going to amount to anything when the factories are still pumping the cars out to meet demand.

If you want to be "green", buy a Ford Tempo for $50 and drive it until it dies completely. Then, patch the rust until it's legal in your state and fit it with a hybrid engine. Repeat as necessary.

No, it will not. Only trucks that have low fuel efficiency no 4x4's etc. as they do not produce anywhere near the amount trucks do. Also trucks take up a lot of room causing a lot more congestion that normal cars.

However as for the Hybrid / Green cars being cheaper, of course they should be.

My mom was thinking about buying a toyota pompus, err... prius, sorry.

She said she would save money on gas, but I told her, the money you're saving is going to jacking the price up. so in the end you aren't really saving anything.

Hybrids are useless they do more damage to the enviroment than normal petrol cars when it is a dust-to-dust cycle(raw materials to scrap) what people need to remember is it isnt just about the fuel its about the whole cycle of raw materials to when the car is scrapped whats the point of running a car on green fuel but the materials used to build it when it comes to scrapping it do more harm to the enviroment than you saved by using green fuels.
