The forest in my backyard that I've grown up with all my life. Is being clearcutted. You can hear and see the trees just falling and all the machinary chopping away. Pretty traumatizing as I played in that forest all the time as a kid. And now at 17 Im watching a company destroy it. My mom who has lived in this house 30 years of her life is about to cry.

Have you guys ever hadanything you love destroyed like this?

Got home from school today (At 3 original post at 9am) and went out back to see what had been done so far and took some pics with my iphone. Looks like there not clearcutting, atleast not yet.

My parents tore down my treehouse/fort 2 years ago so they could put a bench on the hillside. That's been there since I was 5ish, and nobody has ever sat on that bench for more than 5 minutes in the last 2 years.

That's always the worst, they've been cutting down the trees near my house for years now (not clear cutting thankfully) They were supposed to build a subdivision but never did...now they're just selling the lumber, pretty huge waste

That's an awesome backyard. I grew up with a 20ftx20ft backyard with no trees.

You could always go chain yourself to one of the trees.

I thought about running out there. But I doubt it would've ended well.

not to that extreme but when i was little we had this awesome little creek that ran next to our house. we used to play there all the time. then the land was sold and it was all bulldozed and a house was build on top of it... it was kinda sad to see it happen.

Actually had the same sort of thing happen to me.

Lived in this town house for a while as a kid and it had this fantastic woods around it.

They freaking went and cut it all down...

That sucks ass. I live in British Columbia, where everywhere you look there is trees. I couldn't imagine not living around them.

Practically the entire forest where I grew up, where I used to hike with my brother for hours, has been developed. We used to hear coyotes in the valley below our property, but not anymore. This occured over a period of about 10-15 years.

I sometimes wonder where this will stop, will we literally just build until there is no open space left? Is that rational in any way?

It's actually really sad to see a forest being cut down. Some people might not think so, but they're the type of people who don't really give a crap about anything (you're not cool).

Side, with the hill bulldozed into escalating tiers.

For lumber. Not much they can do with it alot is swamp, while the 10+ acres directly behind my house is flat land, alot of the surrounding area is useless swamp. I don't see these tree's being worth anything though, as you might be able to tell. from the OP.

There is a park behind our house that we played football on every day after school. One day we were walking home and saw they had built a basketball court bang in the middle of the field. Worst day of my life.

The closest thing that's happened to me is the current clearcutting of my huntcamp's section of forest. The camp is on private land, but the forest that we hunt in is Crown land (Government owned) and they've decided to clear it out. Nothing on the land we use has been touched yet, but some of the groups that hunt next to us have started to become affected. It's frustrating to know that within the next few years we'll have to find somewhere else to go.
