I thought I saw something at the side when I first looked at it, then it disapeared so i thought it was just the way the picture was and then I got curious and crossed my eyes and BAM!

You can also see it if you shake your head back and forth. I tried it on a hunch.SpaceMoose

It seems like the image is a light discoloration of the white portion. Up close it contrasts with the black more than the white around it so you don't notice it. Further away, the lines are not so distinct so the contrast effect is diminished, I'm guessing.

If you are nearsighted enough and take off your glasses or contacts you can also see it.

for the second one, make sure you are facing at a different dirrection, it's quite freaky as well.
