I really don't want to risk breaking anything. I'm considering purchasing a spine protector, and wearing wrist/knee/elbow pads along with a helmet. Do people ever do this or am I a pansy?

You should use protection every time you snowboard, you never know what kind of diseases you may contract from that dirty, dirty snow. ;)

Naih man, more protection is a good thing. A buddy of mine almost lost his leg snowboarding, everything was cut in half except his flesh (muscles and bones). The doctors said he was really lucky to keep his leg.

Your a pansy, but a spine protector is sensible if you want to go about looking like a teenage mutant ninja turtle. I find it's the small of my back that gets the most punishment as I tend to land on that most the time, but the spine protector stops you from being able to twist around too much during a bad fall where your legs go one way and your top half goes the other, twisting your spine. That's nasty that.

Its good for a Snowboarder and a person who goes skiing to have a helmet, and other protective gear on, but there is still a risk in breaking something though.
