Alright, so yesterday i finally told my friends i was athiest. Well they were mad, they wanted to beat me up and do all those violent stuff to make me switch back to orthodox. So i was at a football game when out of know where these to guys come up and ask me if i know the ten commandments. I occours dont so i tell them no. We start having this maybe 35 minute talk al about god and what i thought about evolution. I am freaked out because could this have been a message from god? They also said i should look out for signs in the next few days.

It's no sign from god, it's most likely something that your friends set up, just pay no attention to it and believe what you want to believe.

Gamespot isnt exactly the best place to talk about religion, as most of the users on here (to my knowledge) arent really tolerant towards relgions. I would probably contact some of the youtube christians about this issue.

Do you live in a highly Christian town or something? Hell, I don't even know the Ten Commandments, but I do know a bit more about the Bible than your average Christian, like that Jesus stayed 40 days after he came back to life, Noah was 600 years old and his daughters got him drunk after the flood, and that the four leaf clover is supposedly lucky because it was the last thing Eve took with her out of Eden.

Wtf, they don't sound like friends if they want to beat you up.
It's not a sign from god, your "friends" probably asked a few of their friends to go talk to you or whatever.

Don't worry about him. My friend was an atheist for a long time (since 4th grade), and he was constantly teased in jr. high. Now he's one of the most well liked kids in the school (however he's now agnostic).

Don't worry about them.

So he essentially had to compromise his beliefs to get liked and stop being bullied? I'm not sure atheism was the main thing, becaues I'm Athiest, I flaunt the hell out of it whenever religion comes up, and, well, you've probably seen that high school thread.

You take what you can get. If your only friends want you to be Christian or horribly beaten up, take it. You can obviously outsmart them (they don't realize that bad events encourage atheism, in a way).

Well, if the Christians wanted to beat you up in order to get you to reaffirm orthodox beliefs, then you already how the Church operates historically. Sadly, many times, this is the way that religion converts--by the sword.

Not necessarily. Maybe he changed his views on his own. It doesn't mean that he changed in order to be liked.

Absolutely not. He is just changing. He just now thinks that it can't be proven one way or the other.

You also have to understand that we live in an extremely conservative-Christian town, and not being Christian is already compromising your reputation here, so he wasn't doing much to save himself.

Typical zealots freaking out to your atheism. I have atheist friends. While I'm not atheist myself nor agnostic, I do find conversation interesting in the vein of talking about God. It's called being open minded, and whether or not I agree with them I take great pleasure in their company.

It's up to each individual to make their own conclusions from what they see, experience, and think during this life.

OK, this sounds like one of those situations where I'd have to meet them to understand, so I'll end it here.

The people that talked to you aren't your friends. If they were they would have been tolerant of your beliefs or lack thereof. I was an agnostic for a very long time, but eventually that changed and I believe in God (though not a religious person). You're "friends" might know the Ten Commandments, but they probably know little more about Christianity than that.

Spirituality is a journey without a destination, and it takes time; don't let people rush you.
