I always thought one of the best things about the old Futurama episodes was that it took place in a science fiction universe that was actually fleshed out and was mostly grounded by real world science. The world they created is actually a really cool one. The plots were the best part of this, considering that so many sci-fi plots are crazy and don't make sense. While Futurama certainly did things that aren't actually possible, or things that are ridiculous, they at least poked fun of themselves for doing so, and they even usually had some sort of scientifically based rational to explain it. In the new ones, however, it seems like they don't care about this at all anymore. A lot of the new plots and plot points seem pretty stupid, and unlike before they don't seem to ever point out the stupidity or unlikeliness of a situation. They just sort of go with it. Futurama has always been really good about scientific accuracy (for a cartoon, at least) and yet it seems like they might be trying to appeal to a larger audience this time around (which makes sense, but I still don't like it). Has anyone else noticed this, or am I just imagining things?
