According to House Minority Leader John Boehner:

Several years ago, a 14-year-old Ohio girl walked into a Planned Parenthood clinic in Cincinnati, accompanied by her soccer coach, John Haller. He was 21 years old and began having sex with the girl when she was only 13. Now that she was pregnant, Haller wanted her to have an abortion.

Rather than notify the parents - as is required under Ohio law - Planned Parenthood called the soccer coach's cell phone for consent. They not only failed to question the man (who had a different last name from the teenager and paid for the abortion with his credit card), but even administered a birth control shot to the young girl - also paid for by Haller. And they and gave her a bag of condoms so that Haller could continue his sexual abuse of the girl after the abortion.

As the father of two beautiful girls, I must tell you ... this story is the stuff of nightmares.

Despite Planned Parenthood's neglect, the parents of the Cincinnati teenager eventually found out about her abortion and the sexual abuse perpetrated by her soccer coach. John Haller was convicted of seven counts of sexual battery and was sentenced to three years in prison.

But the nightmare was not over. The question remains - how many stories like this have occurred in Planned Parenthood's abortion clinics across the country? How many young girls will suffer without someone standing up to protect them? Without someone to say this is wrong and should not be tolerated?

A dispute arose over whether Planned Parenthood should be required to turn over documents that might establish a pattern of failing to follow Ohio parental involvement and mandatory sexual crime reporting laws.

I again teamed up with Americans United for Life to file an amicus brief in this case - a case that generated shock and outrage throughout Ohio by exposing just how far Planned Parenthood will go to perform abortions, even on children.

I would have to agree that for a parent (though I ain't one) this scenario is pretty dang scary. Good thing the parents did finally find out.

Abortion is a partisan issue, and has valid points on both sides of the debate. Sex crimes, on the other hand, are not acceptable to anyone on either side of the debate. PP should be held accountable for this. Even the doctor-patient privlege is subordinate to the law.

Meh. I'm not a parent, so I'm not as emotional about it as he is. If there are policies set up, then they should have followed them. Shame on them for not doing that.

I can understand why this is frightening, but part of me understands the logic in the clinic's thinking:

if a 40 year old man gets a 13 year old girl pregnant, yet a clinic has a record of reporting all offenders, how likely is it that the man is going to take the girl to theclinic to get her problem taken care of? Not very; I'd say its more likely he is gonna freak out, kill her, and bury her in the forrest. And the girl cant do it because she likely lacks the funs, and won't tell anyone because she is embaressed.

By remaining both morally and legally neutral, we gain the best outcome of a crappy siutation. Or the least bad out of a crappy situation.

I mean, there are two ways to solve this problem, with varying results:

1. Man takes girl to clinic and gets abortion; girl's life is not ruined, and maybe the man learns his lesson (not in this example, though)
2. Clinic reports all sex offenders and takes information; man does not take girl to clinic, girl has baby, life ruined. Goodbye med school, good bye saving hundreds or thousands of lives

While I'm rather appalled that the clinic didn't catch onto any of that or report it, what saddens me more is the obvious lack of communication between the girl and her parents. I think it's the responsibility of the parent to let their child know that it is NOT okay to have sex with an adult, authority figure or not, when you're a minor. And it's the parents' responsibility to make sure the child can come to them and say "my coach is making advances towards me, what should I do", and of course clue the child in to the types of luring techniques sexual abusers will use. 13 year old girls like 13 year old boys. They don't initiate relationships with men nearly double their age, and most often girls of that age group who do end up having sex with older men are doing so because he showers them with gifts and affection, and are sucked into having sex with these older men because they're made to feel like they have to "uphold their end of the relationship" by doing so. So basically what I'm saying is, educate your kid. If you have a stupid, naive child, they're at a much higher risk for ending up in a situation like that. If they understand the danger, they can escape before getting sucked in. People will probably WTF OMG at me for that, but whatever.

I agree with this. The key is making parents aware of the warning signs.

A general warning to some of the folks in this thread. Jokes about statutory rape aren't funny. In fact, you'll get moderated for them. Aside from that... IF true and IF this Planned Parenthood clinic has a history of bad behavior here, then they should be punished to the full extent of the law. Having said that, I'd prefer to have a more non-biased source than John Boehner investigating.

I refuse to make an opinion on this subject without a report that doesn't sound like a concerted effort to smear Planned Parenthood as a whole.
