No amount of money would ever make me do this guys job.

About 40 seconds is when it starts if you are impatient. :)

Jesus... I felt a little sick watching that. They should have parachutes or something, that way you don't have to go through that again lol.
It does pay good. 20 or so years ago I made my living, at least partly, by climbing radio towers. I've never been as high as that guy, but above about 60 feet, if you fall, you're dead. I've also never had the luxury of an elevator. The highest I ever climbed was 650 feet up on an 850 foot tower. I then had to hang off a horizontal boom to get to the bottom of the antenna. Big fun.
Believe it or not, the climb back down is harder than the climb up. You climb up first when you're fresh and full of energy. The climb down comes after you've been hanging off the tower for a couple hours or more, constantly supporting your weight on your legs.
You better be in good shape if you are going to do that job.
If someone ever wants me to do a job that involves me being able to see the curvature of the earth I think I would possibly murder them for even asking.
I get scared whenever I have to stand on a stool. No amount of money could make me take that job:cry:
The only way I would even consider doing that is if I had a parachute on. At 1600ft you'd definitely have enough time to open that thing up and still land safely. Hell, by the time he reached the "peak" he was already higher than some of the clouds.
I'm curious though, how do they build these things? I mean, it's already nerve wracking enough watching a guy climb that deathtrap, but imagine what it was like for the poor bastard who had to climb up that thing while it was incomplete and then sit there and add more to it
A friend of mine worked on a transmitter tower in Georgia; he was up near the top with his other technician he worked with, the guy fell after not properly hooking up his safety harness, about 120' and his toolbox fell after him. Apparently, the results were pretty appallingxaosHim or the other technician?
