1) Surrounding Iran with military bases. Every star represents a military base.

2) Attempting to block oil exports, a major source of GDP

3) Threatening to bomb defense and nuclear facilities

4) Assasinating scientists

5) Sending military aircraft into their airspace

Seems resonable that Iran would be a little paranoid right about now. I know Americans would be furious if anyone tried anything like this on them.

I've only actually heard that the USA was responsible for 2 of those 5 things.

Iran shouldn't be building weapons with the intent to start a full scale war.

To be fair, the country's President did once say that he would take out Israel and sees no problem in developing nuclear weapons. It's really no wonder why the USA is taking precautions...

That's probably Israel that was assasinating Iranian scientists.

That picture is very misleading. Many of those countries we do not have troops in. Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, Turkey we have no base or troops there.

Yeah you're right...they seem to have nothing but the best intentions with their nuclear program and the major players within their government seem extremely rational, well grounded, and open to the ideas of their people. We need to leave them alone

That map is pretty outdated. For example, Camp Doha in Kuwait was shut down several years ago and there are no US troops in Iraq except for the usual Marine Security Detachment at the US Embassy in Baghdad and a few (less than 200) troops that assist Iraqis in training programs and don't participate in combat operations.

Also, a few of those points are just speculation such as the US assasionating scientists. In terms of threatening to bomb nuclear facilities, it's pretty natural to be worried about a country that wants to blow Isreal off the face of the Earth getting nukes. Yes, some of the things the US does are questionable but it could be worse.

I have no qualms with why Iran hates the US. Plus the US funds Israel extensively, pushes for economic sanctions, etc.

I don't know why we do it either. The US should just stop putting so much pressure on them and maybe tensions would ease a little. However what's done is done and now it's looking like war will hit Iran in the next few years if things continue like they currently are.

Iran does not go out of its way to make friends. Ask any mid-easterner what they think of Persians (or vice-versa), and sit back for the show.

worlock77: Yep, the power rests with the Supreme Leader, in which the position is not democratic at all. He can pretty much do whatever he wants - nothing substantial is in place to keep his power in check. At least the President can be removed by the Supreme Leader.

1) When is that map from? It seems a little outdated. I think the U.S. has completely withdrawn from Iraq and doesn't have bases there any more. Also many of those bases were created either to fight the Taliban and Al Qaeda or to defend Middle-Eastern Countries from Iraq.

2) Iran threatened to block off the strait of Hormuz, which would hurt their own ability to export oil.

3) If the U.S. feels the nuclear facilities are a threat to us darn right we'll bomb them. Ever hear of the term "pre-emptive strikes".

4) We don't know for sure who assassinated these scientists. It could be the U.S. or Israel, but maybe the Iranians themselves killed these scientists in order to prevent them from telling what they know.

5) I do not know of any cases in which the U.S. sent planes into their airspace on purpose. We do have planes in Afghanistan and Iraq and some may have accidentally went into Iran for a bit.

That's probably Israel that was assasinating Iranian scientists.

Well I did see some similarities between the assassination of this scientist and the assassination of Hezbollah terrorist Imad Mughniyeh, which was thought to be by the Israelis. Both events involved car bombs.

I remember years ago I used to like write video-games and I made one video game called "GTA Deluxe" which was a combination of GTA 3, Vice City and San Andreas and in one of the levels you play as Tommy Vercetti and work for the Ballas and do a drive by on CJ's house (he survives but he is hit in the knee and has a limp, later on him and Vercetti team up but CJ doesn't know it was Tommy who shot him).

32 years of unreasonable sanctions by the USA and its close allies(biggest economies in the world), coup led by the CIA against a democratically elected government, support for a Shah who was pretty much a deluded despot that cared nothing for the lower classes, and the help the CIA gave Khomeini's regime in eliminating political opposition just because they were mostly socialist/marxist would make any Iranian hate the USA. And this is all stuff that precedes the whole military and nuclear facilities dilemma.

You really think the USA killed that scientist?

That's sad.

Israel maybe, not the US.

Also the US and the EU wouldn't be threatening sanctions if Iran would just drop it's nuclear weapons programs. They are letting inspectors in so that's a good start.

[QUOTE="shakmaster13"][QUOTE="biggus_phallus"][QUOTE="shakmaster13"] Except the government is neither crazy nor unstable, interventionist policy in the Middle East only further strengthens the belief in conspiracy theories.

No the Iranian government is definitely crazy. Anyway, I don't suppot interventionist policies in the Middle East because the Middle East is crazy and can't be helped.

I seriously hope that you are just using this as a troll account, because if truly believe what you say then you are very uninformed on the subject.

I believe every word I said. The problems with the Middle East go much deeper than the governments. The Middle East is deficient in education, culture, and morality. The US can't fix these problems.

To be fair, the country's President did once say that he would take out Israel and sees no problem in developing nuclear weapons. It's really no wonder why the USA is taking precautions...michaelP4

Tons of countries in that region already have nukes, like Pakistan, and no one likes Israel, yet Israel is still un-nuked and no 'terrorist' seems to be able to get their hands on them or any nuclear material. They're(Israel) really aren't doing anything to make it any better either.

Whoever assassinated that scientist, probably Israel(supported by us/U.S.), is just testing the 'stability' in the region, and murdered an innocent man in the process. And the harder we push them into a conflict, the easier it is to justify our 'intervention', it disgusts me, and undermines our own security, provoking other nations like that.

I don't have a problem with them making nukes, I don't like them, I see no need to have weapons personally, but they've been pushed for so many years to prepare to defend themselves, we're only helping them move forward into this.

What happens there isn't/shouldn't be my business anyway, and I shouldn't have to be bothered to care (assuming we'd leave the region, which I'm sure our 'help{instigating coups, empowering dictators, who then abuse their power, then we have a coup to remove them and we don't back them up and let them get slaughtered, like the bay of pigs...} ' in Iraq and Afghanistan isn't ubiquitously appreciated).

If everyone wasted their time caring for everyone as if they were their immediate family, no one would have any wealth, there would be nothing but some 'Utopian' tribal crap. For there to be any prosperity, there will be poverty.

We need to stop 'nation building' we've been trying it with that region for ~60 years, and this is what we get, a quagmire. If we wanted to actually 'help' and build their nation, I think the best way to do it would be to conqure them propperly, and make them a part of Our nation, give them Our rights and Our political system, let them attempted to have elections to Our political system.

But no one would dare conqure another nation in this day, and no one wants to make Iraq/Afghanistan into part of the united states, but if we want them to be like us, and defend them like they're our own terriotory, impose laws on that region, then we should give them rights too.
