3.John Carter -$13,515,000$53,172,000

4.Project X -$4,005,000$48,131,000

5.A Thousand Words -$3,750,000$12,103,000

7.Safe House -$2,800,000$120,200,000

8.Journey 2: The Mysterious Island -$2,460,000$95,066,000

9.Casa De Mi Padre -$2,200,000 $2,200,000

10.This Means War -$2,125,000$50,525,000

There wasn't much in the way of competition this week, which left 21 Jump Street--the only major film to get a release this week--the #1 movie this weekend, opening to rave reviews, and an estimated $35 mil take. Everything else pretty much speaks for itself.

Next week also features one major title opening by itself. The Hunger Games is the latest book-to-film adaptation that hopes to become a potential movie franchise, along the lines of Harry Potter. Time will tell is that will happen.

As always, here's where OT chimes in. What did YOU see in theaters this weekend...and was it any good?

21 Jump Street looks funny, went to try to see it Friday but the showing I went for was already sold out, maybe I'll try again later tonight or sometime this week. I'm kind of surprised John Carter hasn't done better, I've no desire to watch it but I'd figured other people would have been all over it. Maybe too many screens are wasted on 3D and/or IMAX and nobody wants to pay all that extra money see some of these movies that way.

21 Jump Street was great all my friends who thought it looked terrible were confused when they saw all the good reviews coming out for it.

It is insanely funny, I would recommend it.

I actually didn't think 21 Jumpstreet would make that much, but now I feel the need to see it...when it's available for renting.

The movie doesn't look like something that SHOULD be good, but it's been getting nothing but praises left and right.

I'm surprised 21 Jump Street would make #1, but then again, there wasn't any notable releases. For some reason, I kept thinking Hunger Games was going to be released this weekend. I just bought the book trilogy and would like to read them before watching the movie.

I don't understand the surprise. Most new movies hit #1 their first week unless there's a major blockbuster out. And anything with Jonah Hill is goign to do well.

Its because since its rated R and pretty vulgar they cant really market what its really like on trailers

It's not that its R-rated, its the whole idea of an 80's dramatic series is being played up as a comedy. I mean, the idea of Jonah Hill as an undercover cop is so absurd, it shouldn't work. But apparently, it does.

Not too mention that other guy who has only done really crappy movies directed towards high school girls. Not too mention modeling for Abercrombie... Im sure he will be just a hoot.

According to some of the reviews out, they say that Channing Tatum is more suited for comedy, and that his role works. The both of them, actually have gotten decent praise.
