The effect on the race being Herman Cain failing to maintain a competitive number of votes relative to Romney. What Cain should do isn't necessarily what Cain will do. Same goes for Romney. I imagine them both being primarily concerned with winning the nomination. Diverting attention from the issues in this instance benefits Romney.

I imagine Cain's poll numbers will start dropping soon. He'll keep his base, but others will gravitate to other candidates, especially women.

No doubt about that. I'm wondering how much Gingrich stands to gain from this.

I think this is a very silly reason to not support someone. They should be more focused on the fact that he's not exactly brilliant.

Yes, but you have to consider the voters. People who Cain suddenly polled well with formerly supported Perry and formerly Bachmann before Perry. Basically, they are the "I'm not Mitt Romney" vote. Do they revert to Perry? No - he has lost much favorability w. that crowd. Bachmann? A few - but for reasons I can't comprehend, she has dropped to near irrelevance. Gingrich? Probably grabs quite a few. Ron Paul? He has his people. They love him. Aside from that, his appeal is to a limited political audience. Santorum stands to pick up a few, but is a relatively irrelevant candidate, though he is likely to gain a wee bit from this.. Huntsman is betting on 2016, IMO, and does not appeal to that audience. He is Romney 2016.

TL;DR: The votes need to go somewhere. Gingrich is my money.

I think you nailed it with your post.:) Romney and Gingrich are the only ones who can go toe-to-toe in a debate with Obama.

Gingrich by far feasts on easy questions the most out of any candidate and gives the illusion that he is a great debater. But when it comes times for the "Gotcha" questions, he cowers and whines about it instead of AT LEAST BSing it like Romney/Obama does.

I first agreed with you about the gotcha questions, but the more I thought about it the more I thought Newt was right: there are too many "gotcha" questions. I don't see him cowering at all, he's simply standing up and pointing it out. It seems 99/100 times you get a mish mash, wishy washy response to a "gotcha" question because essentially they are most "sophie choice" type. They only thing they end up accomplishing is how good someone can BS instead of solid answers

The only good thing a BS answer does is give the media something to make a controversial headline with "Obama agrees with the socialists!" or "Newt wants all homeless to die!" or some crap like that.

I find it amusing that people are trying to trump up some conspiracy attack brought on from the Democrat Party.. If anything they would want Cain to make it to the general election instead of Romney..

Gingrich would eat Obama for lunch in a debate. Even if he doesn't get the nomination, I think he is guaranteed to get VP slot. I can see the slaughter now... Gingrich vs. Biden. LOL.

I would rather focus on his political ideology. I'm Canadian though, so I have better things to occupy my time than this gossip.

People who support a candidate seem to convince themselves that said candidate is the most electable. The Cain peeps are obviously going to label this a Democratic scheme.

Several sources have confirmed Biden as VP for 2012. But if they become desperate then Clinton would be a wise choice. She's smarter than both I think.

His campaign, IIRC, yes. His followers/rhetoric machine? The liberal media, Obama, primary competitors, the usual suspects, etc.

I agree, if he dumped Biden he stands to lose a chunk of the Northeast - I don't think they would like that very much. Then again, Obama needs him for comic relief (his wondrous gaffes), like so: 1. "A man I'm proud to call my friend. A man who will be the next President of the United States - Barack America!" 2. "You cannot go to a 7-11 or a Dunkin' Donuts unless you have a slight Indian accent.... I'm not joking." (caught by C-Span).

There are just too many "coincidences" here to ignore. One accuser an Obama administration employee and the other one who lived in the same building as Obama's right hand aide, and both of them with dubious work histories/financial troubles/history of pursuing litigation to boot? Forgive those of us inquisitive enough to call BS on this.

The first one is a hilarious honest mistake. I don't understand why the **** he said the second quote.

To prevent him from winning the Republican nomination. (leading back to GreySeal's question, being that he is a weak candidate)

seems to me they would want to face a weak candidate.

unless of course you are suggesting they are massively honerable and only want to face the strongest candidate.

Yes, they want to face a weak candidate. That is exactly why GreySeal posed his question. It makes positively no sense for DNC to target Cain. (at this point in time anyway)

No problemo. I could have stated my post more clearly.
