I think time travel is impossible, because if someone was able to go back and alter past events, it would destroy the present. I also think if someone invented time travel in the future, they would have come back to the present and shared their discovery with us so we could all go around driving Delorians until we hit 88 mph.JustPlainLucas

your theory assumes that the present u live in isnt the result of someone going back in time. And then there is themultiverse universe where there are infinitenumber of universes where every conceivable possiblity occurs thus time travel is accounted for already. And then there is the theory (cant remember the physicists theory, but he was Russian and started with an 's' :P) that even if you went back in time, it would be impossible for you to make any changes that could drastically alter the flow of history. Lets say you go back in time to kill your father, sumthing would alwaysget in your way. Then there is the theory that by going back in time, you remove your self from the time stream. Thus if u go back in time to kill your father, nothing would happen to u, u would still be there since you are no longer connected to the time stream, but people would just forget of your father's existance.

Then there is my theory. That time travel is possible but irrelavent and pointless. By going back in time, you yourself would also go back in time thus all your memories and actions and thoughts would be reversed so you would be doomed into making the same choices again and again and again, thus making time travel useless.

time travel to back is imposibble proven by the grandfather paradox...you dont have to kill your ancestors to stop you from being born..even if you go and maybe look at someone in the past he she may look at you and that will cause him to be late for 1 second..that one second may change all the events of history..so it is imposibble..but future is not..you just need heavy intense gravity or extreme speed

If memory serves, "The multiverse" or the idea of infinite demisions is part of super string theory. Lets use your example of killing your father before you were born. If you go back in time and killed your father you would not change anything in this dimension where you and your father still exist. Instead you would create a new reality or dimension seperate from your home dimension, where the butterfly effect caused by your actions take place. With out this theory it would be impossible to go back in time to kill your father before you were born because his killer would have never existed. To accomplish this task of changing reality, the killer would have to come from a parallel reality immune to the effects of his actions. So in theory, you could go back in time and cause all the damage you want but when you return home nothing will have been changed because it wasn't your reality you were having an impact on.

Even if future governments don't place restrictions on that kind of stuff, I think people with that kind of technology would find more interesting things to do like visiting other planets, taking virtual vacations, downloading fake memories or dowlading digital crack or experiences (PS9) directly to their brains instead of visiting us primitive people.

Then again, if they were interested in coming here, the reason we have not seen them is probably because the human race will become extinct before the technology can be developed.
