Well...i've had my dog Shasta since I was just a kid, and no matter how much changed in my life, she was always there.  But, she is old, dying, and suffering, so she is going to be put down tomorrow.  For a while I couldn't even bear the thought of putting my dog down, but i've come to realise, that its for the best.  She is in pain everyday, the humane thing to do would be to end that pain.

That is my question to you, what are your thoughts on putting pets down?  Would you rather let an animal live out its last days in pain, just so you can spend that little bit of extra time with it?  Or would you put them down, to end their pain, at the expense of lost time with that animal?

Here is a picture of my dog, Shasta

I'm going to miss her...

Sry about the dog

and

I'm for putting an animal down. I mean, would you like to live out your last days in pain? Besides, I don't think I could be happy with a pet/friend knowing they are in pain.

I feel the same way, i'd rather that something I care about not be in pain during its last days of life.

I'm sorry about your dog... :(

I have a cat and I hope that I'll never have to come to that day when I would have to put my cat down... That cat is like a baby to me and it would be so sad... But if I knew it was in pain, I would put it down so it wouldn't have to suffer.

I'm sorry to hear about your dog. Putting a pet down is one of the hardest decisions that can be made, but you made the right one. It's always hard to get over the loss of a beloved pet. Once again, my condolences.

I to had to put or see many animals put down. The worse tho is when I had to give up dog to the shelter because I had to move into an apartment. I knew that he would be put down because he had issues. (Abused by previous owners.) It sucked. Peace.

I had to put down a cat I'd had almost my whole life last year.

She was two years younger then me.

It wasn't easy.

Edit: That being said. It would not have been fair to make her suffer.

We had to put our dog down many years ago, because she was in a great deal of pain.  Believe me, it actually made me a little less distressed knowing she was at peace than seeing her in pain, hardly able to walk.  Putting your dog down is the right thing to do.

good decision to put your dog down. pain is not nice :(

and looks like a very nice dog, too. i'm not the type to say wonderful things about people's pets and stuff if they put them on the internet expecting for praise (not saying you are) but that's a very nice looking dog. it's really true though... your life can change a lot, but a pet is a great constant to have.

Shasta's beautiful.

And I'm sorry to hear that about your dog. As for your question maybe the best decision is to let our pets die with no pain. I'd be heartbreaking to see your pet agonizing later and not being able to do something.

Wow, your dog is beautiful

It's good you put her down, I feel like it's harder to watch someone/something you love's heath deteriorate rather than euthanizing them (and dealing with the loss..which is inevitable anyway). It's a much smaller animal, but a few weeks ago we had to euthanize my hamster, Hamlet. He is small and doesn't do tricks but hamsters still have personality...he had cancer (tumor on neck) and was going bald

I'm sorry to hear that, that's sad thing for everyone.

There are about, I dont know exactly because it's a very variable number, about 20 cats in my home, that's our family bussiness. Some of our cats are not sold and live the whole life here, and sometimes when they get sick, it's just necessary to put them down for the good of them.

Remember that every pet's owner feel the same way as you do on that situation
