It's a very interesting concept isn't it? :P

Is it possible? Anyone here know a lot of physics?

Because I read a story about these people who were visiting an old mansion and they suddenly found that it was alive with people dressed in Victorian fashion, they claimed that they had entered a time warp.

What do you guys think about it ? ;)

You can't travel through time.

And even if it was possible, I doubt humans would be able to harness the technology and power needed travel through time.

Time is fleeting... Moving forward in time is possible due to relativisitic time dilation. However, for it to be more than a trivial amount, you would have to accelerate to a significant fraction (like .75 or more) of lightspeed. For example, to move through time at a factor of 100 seconds per 1 "at rest" second, you'd have to move at 0.99994999874993749609347654199058 lightspeed, or about 186272 miles/second, so as you can imagine, it's not terribly practical. There are a number of things that suggest that time travel into the past are not possible, due to things like entropy and thermodynamics in general, as well as all understanding of causality.

It is an interesting concept.

Reminds me a bit of H.G. Wells "The Time Machine."

I once asked my HS physics teacher what he thought about the subject. He said that his theory was there would need to be a signifcant amount of force to shatter some sort of barrier or law of reality. However, such a force a human probably could not withstand. He also said time was nonlinear, but a cluster of webbed events.

He was a weird guy too.

But it's something to think about.

I was a physics major and I can't even imagine what he was trying to convey with "nonlinear time" and "a cluster of webbed events." It sounds more like comic book speak than anything else to me :(

Technically, if you were in a ship (and could survive) traveling at nearly the speed of light, time would appear to travel slower for you relative to time on earth. You might have traveled for a year in your ship and discover hundreds of years have passed on Earth. But reverse time travel is science fiction. Reality only exists through the observation of probably outcomes. You cannot travel to a point in time other than what you can immediately observe (the moment you exist in).

BTW: You should remove that Train Accident from you sig. It will get you suspended. And its very tasteless.

That is one model; and it is by new means universally accepted, nor does it describe any mechanisms for achieving travel into the past. While it presents intriguing ideas, note that this model was submitted through a private "print service" and not a peer-reviewed journal.

No idea, the guy was weird lol. I spent most of my time on the computer playing Half Life and Age Of Empires. That and flirting with all the cute girls in class.

I dont believe in the concept of time traveling, it makes everything we do in life is nothing more but a repitition of our future self has done, we will be nothing more but puppets so do our inifnite past self.

What do you base this claim on? Are you referring to compactified dimensions from string theory? If so, the entire energy output of several *galaxies* would be necessary to expand one of these dimensions to a scale accessible by humans. On the other hand, string theory is finding itself on shaky ground these days, due to the complete lack of testable predictions :( Edit: By the way, these dimensions are all orthogonal to the dimensions of space and time, so accessing them wouldn't help you move through those directions any more than the ability to move only north and south would help you travel east.
